Far from the "best game" based off an existing franchise, imo. But I thought it was a pretty good game. The team at Avalanche that was supposed to be behind the car mechanics in that game are heading up that part of the development for Rage 2. So should be fun!"You can take the politics out of the forums, but you can't take the snowflakes out of the internet "

Yeah it was surprisingly great. Many game "journalists" lambasted it for being repetetive, but if the gameplay itself is fun then it doesn't matter if you are doing the same thing. It's like criticising Mario because all you do is jump.
I did think the ending was a little hamfisted and silly. Though I'll not say anymore to avoid spoiling it. Infact the only negatives I could say about the game would all be plot-related.
Also it gets bonus points for having a really good screenshot tool. Not enough games let you do this, but being able to pause at any time, remove all UI elements, reposition the camera, add filters and effects... Well it just made the game that much more fun for me. I must've spent hours just trying to set up cool screenshots to use as wallpaper.

I slept on it when it came out because there was stiff competition at the time, but when I finally played it a year or so later I was blown away.
The driving and car combat is fantastic, the sound design, lighting engine and amazing vistas... just killer. Love somewhat lonely, ruined worlds like this. Tearing ass across the salty sands just rules, with the way everything feels and the effects they use. If this game had HDR10 support, I can't even imagine what the lighting and color would be like.
The Arkham style melee combat and open world collectathon slash "tower" parts may seem a little conceptually derivative and rote, but it works and is ultimately really fun. Good variety and incentive for exploration. I really dig the setting, characters and driving, so it all worked for me.
Whole reason I'm hype for Rage 2 is because Avalanche is making it and that immediately made me think "hell yeah, Mad Max"

I "accidentally" played it when Sea of Thieves was released and my gawd, what a nice surprise! I got a couple months of Game Pass (for SOT) and while I was with it I tried Mad Max and I honestly think it's one of the biggest sleepers of this generation, if not the biggest one.
The game world is MASSIVE, it's all deserts but still feels so full of life and details, the driving is so much fun, the general graphics and design are pretty good... I'm surprised it went under the radar for most people."Yeah, well… that's like… your opinion, man…"

The thing I really enjoyed about the game was how fun it was just driving around and beating people up. The combat system was fantastic, visceral, and exciting; the driving was straight forward and solidly constructed, while the upgrade system and customization were elegantly handled. Few things so cool as fighting a group of ten baddies in an oil camp, while tornado winds throw you around the battlefield and tankers explode in the background. The story wasn't particularly complicated or engaging but the gameplay was awesome.

I had a good time with it. Better than expected in almost all areas. The gameplay was really entertaining and i would call it the best mad max game adaptation so far.
