Just finished Sundered and Bladed Fury, gonna start making my way through in no real order: Monolith, Sonic Mania, Sonic & All-Star Racing Transformed, Bullet Soul Infinite Burst, and Super Galaxy Squadron EX Turbo. I need to also finish Rad Rogers and Hob.
The game I'm currently playing as part of my "Eliminate Backlog" initiative is Project Warlock on GOG.
As far as indie games go (which I already don't play a lot of), this game is an instant highlight. It plays like a classic FPS (like Doom & Wolfenstein) with some fantasy RPG elements thrown in. The gunplay feels great and every weapon I've unlocked so far is pretty useful.
While the combat is fun, I was instantly taken by how beautiful the game looks. It's got that retro 2D pixelated aesthetic but the use of lighting is top notch and every piece of music I've heard so far is pretty damn good.
I started this game immediately after wrapping up my first run of Dusk (another amazing love-letter to the FPS games of old) and I'm incredibly happy with both.
i've been keeping an eye out for both Project Warlock and Dusk for a while but have been hesitant to pick any of these recently released retro style fps games because there has been quite a few retro style games that didn't deliver. But just from reading this i'm leaning more to giving these games a try
On a Crusader Kings 2 ironman run through. I still haven't survived yet for the full length of the campaign. I will probably make it this time, as long as I don't get Wiped out by Genghis Khan. The desert area north of the empire of Tibet sure gets raided a lot.
Got Beholder 2 on the steam sale. Didn't play the first one but this is pretty fun, even if it is a paperwork simulator. It's really dark but really funny at the same time.
"the rules are more important than common sense!"
"Approve requests to the Ministry of Patriotism."
"Reject requests to the Ministry of Patriotism."
"Reward requests to any Ministry."
"Send to the firing squad for appeals to the Ministry of Patriotism"
...someone's execution is going to be very confusing for everyone involved.
