Once you upgrade to a new ship, don't use it unless you have money to cover the insurance!

There are many stories out there of players who were excited about their shiny new ship, went out with it, blew up and didn't have enough to cover insurance. That means they lost the ship.
...and got very salty.

Disclaimer: I haven't played elite in years though, so it is possible insurance is not a thing anymore.
