I think I heard something in one of the half dozen Youtube videos I watched on this game that they're early-accessing this thing for about 12-18 months which is what started just now. With that in mind I'll just watch it every now and then and give it a deeper, more deserved, look once it inches close to its 1.0. I never picked up Ark as I checked in from its earliest days and just kind of kept tabs on its progress. What I saw wasn't good and I'm glad I didn't try to get invested. I'm hoping that Atlas doesn't start all the way at Ark's beginning and instead takes its Early Access from where Ark is now onwards. It has a chance to be a compelling experience depending on whether they address the current stable of issues with Ark in Atlas. If this is just an Ark reskin late 2019 I think I'll hard pass on it.

Older games like Ragnarok Online have managed 10,000-15,000 people per server, but if everyone goes into the same zone then yeah, it goes kaput.

In the few hours since I saw this thread I've looked into the game a bit more. I'm really drawn to one big world with 40,000 people rolling around stealing each others shit. Though I am very aware that the number in question should probably be taken with metric tonne of salt, even 10,000 per server would be sweet. Still very worried it will be 40,000 per server (only 3 people on screen at the same time) or (100+ instances of every zone!).

Putting that aside, the game does look pretty cool. Combat seems a bit crappy, but full loot pirate pvp adventures sounds badass.

C'mon dude, it's nearly 2019. All you should care about is what youtubers and twitch streamers are paid to play for advertising purposes. Thats what all the cool kids are interested in!

I got excited when I heard it was a pirate MMO, but then I saw it was made by the same people who created Ark.

Yeah the devs have me very wary of this. I have no faith in people who have an early access game out and then release a full priced expansion for their early access game.

Is it really 40,000 players in one world on one server? The steam description says so, but I doubt the ARK devs have the ability to make it happen. I'm assuming it's heavily sharded. But I'd be pleasantly surprised if I was incorrect.
