    started a topic Atlas

    Atlas

Well at 4:00pm AEST Saturday, Atlas Twitch streamers has outnumbered Fortnight streamers 180k to 130k.

Look's like everyone else won't be playing till 3:00pm Sunday. I've become interested and posting the game here as of today.

I see it's the new hot topic, but didn't look like something I would have enjoyed or dove headlong into.

the biggest issue with the map is thatits made out of zones. each zone is a server capable of hosting 150 players. On each zone is 3-4 islands. If you would combine these 4 islands together they would be a size of around 10% of smallest official ark map. So I guess I dont need to go on where is the problem here when game is actually focused on farming resources on land.

I've been hearing some funny stories about this game:

1)Trying to transition between "zones" is dodgey as fuck. People have built a brand new boat with all their friends and tried to set sail only to enter a map which fills up as they are entering, which for some reason means the game just destroys their ship.

2)There's a gang of Chinese players that just roll around taking over maps and zerging anyone and everything on sight.

3)Dangerous animals spawn rates are through the roof. So people are saying they goto harvest some resources and are beset by 10 wolves and snakes the entire time.

One of the first things that really stood out to me as an issue when I was reading about the game prior to its launch is the map. (Here it is for those who haven't seen it https://www.pcgamer.com/atlas-mmo-map/). Its just so boring and repetitive looking, and I get that its a pirate MMO so they don't want large landmasses, but could it kill them to have a decent amount of variety?

After playing this game as a solo player here is my perspective on this game. If you plan to play in a group it most likely will look different.

All video trailers are clearly false advertisement. After watching these trailers people are expecting a pirate game but instead of sailing sea, fighting other pirates and going on treasure hunts you spend 95% of time farming for materials to build your base and then a ship. I could understand some grind for it, but bare minimum ship to have fun is on 2nd tier, and it takes around 2 days for solo player to build it. But first things first here is how starting a game looks like. You spawn on a newb island where you cant build anything and can get only level 8. To get out of island you need to buy raft from a npc. After sailing away and searching for new island (usually takes 15 minutes to get to new one) you will end up most likely on next newb map, lawless map where you cant claim any land (just a islands for people already owning ships to farm mats) or regular island. If you get lucky and end up on regular island you need to claim a land, but the problem is that all islands are fully claimed by other players (1 player can literally claim whole island and put an upkeep so other players wont be able to claim it back). Even if you get lucky and be able to reclaim a piece of land (takes around 40 minutes if no one interrupts it) you need to build a small base to store all materials and have a place to re-spawn. Building a smallest bare minimum base can take 3+hours of punching trees. Then you can start thinking about building a ship. You can start by building lowest tier ship. Just gathering mats for it should take around 5-8hours, but lets be honest its literally garbage and waste of time so it's better to go right away to build tier 2 ship that takes solo player around 2 days of farming. You can imagine that even in group its a way 2 long. If you will build this kind of ship you clearly will not plan to use it for any kind of fighting because loosing it or repairing will take a way 2 much of your time. Conclusion. Its not a pirate game. Its a punching trees simulator. The only way to play it is on private servers, but most of people bought it for pirate theme as well as “mmo” aspect. And you cant call playing on private servers a mmo experience. The only way I enjoyed this game so far was on private server with gathering cranked up to like x50.

Everything I mentioned was pure gameplay, I didnt include anykind of bugs like agresive mobs respawning on top of each other (you can literally find islands with houndreds of mobs where you can not ever run past them, islands not respawning resources, from nevers bugs there are ghost ships spwaning everywhere (if you wasted 2 days to build a ship you most likely lost it already while offline) and the list goes on.

Conclusion time. If you plan to buy this game my suggestion would be waiting at least 2 or 3 months till its in somehow playable state and it have changed game mechanics (if they will be planning to change them in the first place)Im personally waiting for a refund after 20 hours of playing because of clearly false advertisement.

I ended up buying this (thanks mainly to faith in Steam's refund policy). I had to make use of that policy within an hour.

The game is downright unplayable due to massive incompotent network issues. Compounded by the fact that as suspected the game is not 40,000 players in one world, but 150 players in a server. And that was on a wilderness map. Inside one of the starting freeports it was impossible to even move. I couldn't escape the spot I spawned on due to rubberbanding so heavy it was unlike anything I've ever seen before.

The gameplay is identical to Ark. The Ark menu indicating this was originaly DLC for Ark has been publicised a lot, but less mentioned is that if you goto the games install directory you can find references to Arks other expansions. It's obvious this is just a reskin of Ark. And they couldn't even get their own game playable despite many consecutive delays. I can only assume the game was pushed out the door in hopes of tricking people into buying it for xmas. Those Steam gifts are non-refundable, easy money!

I thought the Ark devs were greedy and lazy before this. But I was willing to roll the (no consequence, thanks refund policy!) dice on this due to the game concept being so alluring. However this has only cemented in my mind that these developers should be avoided like the plague. Absolutely disgusting.
