  • Does TF2 still hold up?

Everyone's favourite hat-themed war simulator turned eleven a few months ago. It's seen ups and downs, great updates and awful updates and crushingly long periods of total radio silence, broken only by the existential screaming of TF2 players and related Youtubers, begging the Valve gods for a morsel of content.

At least we still get hats occasionally.

How does TF2 hold up after all these years to the community of EG? Let's discuss.

Part of the reason why I'm not sold on public multiplayer games... I know it's the minority, but there's always a chance to get caught with someone screaming down the mic.

MINECRAFT KID RAGES SO HARD IN TF2 !!!!!!!!

Thing is, man, there's an easy to find muting option in your pause menu.

I came to the game late. I hadn't played TF1 and picked up TF2 on sale. One the best $20 I ever spent. I enjoyed the single player campaign and I'm still playing multiplayer now and then. Just played a bunch of matches yesterday. I was previous playing a lot if Destiny but gave up on it. TF2 has definitely filled that multiplayer void. It's fast paced and there's still no problem finding matches. I love that there's co op for those who enjoy it there's no problem jumping into matches solo. If TF3 is going to be anything like this I'm already sold.

Honestly, TF2 gave me the best time of my life. And not only the game itself. Who remembers the Golden Age of Gmod videos? (Just look at my profile pic, it's a screenshot from ElTororro64Rus Gmod video "Box of Cox")

In any case, I still play it very often, abeit I do sometimes take almost month-long breaks from it cuz I just have a shitton of games that I want to play as well.

Yeah, TF2 is pretty fun if you want to go play it. It's there I absolutely love this game, and I love everything that comes with it, especially creative stuff like Surfing and Tennis, good shit.

I love TF2 so much, hell it's probably my favorite game of all time even over my favorite single player stuff. I love the universe, the characters, and the surprising depth of the game play for a game that doesn't really take itself too seriously nor made to be competitively viable. While I think the game could be so much more today with proper support and polish, the core game is so tightly designed while still being so fun on a casual level that it has joined Super Smash Bros. Melee and Halo 3 as my go-to fallbacks when modern games aren't cutting it for me. I thought Overwatch would kill it and steal the audience completely, but because of how aggressively streamlined and no-nonsense it turned out to be it just won't have the staying power of TF2. I might write a whole thread about this, but it seems to me that casual games with really solid mechanics have far better foundations as serious eSports than the new stuff that is made from the ground up to accommodate that crowd.
