  • Darksiders 3

    Hey all,

So I just finished my playthrough of Darksiders 3 on Apocalyptic and personally loved it! I was curious if anyone else here picked it up and what their thoughts were on it were.

I've noticed the divide between other "sources" with it being too hard for them and not enough hand holding ending in them giving it a bad score and a few other people online being fine and enjoying it. I understand it's all subjective.

But want to hear your thoughts on this newest entry to the series.

I wonder if this is going to be the new "Dark Souls" reference that the hack games journos use?

This is my first Darksiders game. I'm really liking it so far. This game gives me more of a Soul Reaver x Bayonetta vibe instead of "soulslike". I really like the gameplay (took me a couple of hours to adapt), I'm a big fan of the artstyle and Fury's design. Definitively one of my favorite games of 2018!

Darksiders 2 was beautiful, and the soundtrack, maan.
I am thinking of replaying 2nd remastered and then playing 3d
Being not the easiest game is a good thing, i remember puzzles in the 2nd...
(but maybe that's just my resist to the puzzles stat is quite low and i am playing myself)

Here is a review by Skill Up who pretty much sums up how the game seams to have allot of negativity pushed on it for seemingly no logical reason. I mean teh game has it's share of problems, but most reviewers basically boil it down to "It's a Dark Souls clone so it must be bad!".

Personally, I like the game for what it is. A metroidvania style game with a small but well design open world.

What people might not like about it is:
              - It's much smaller in scale compared to the previous games. Though this makes it so there is no giant spaces with nothing to do in them.
              - They dropped the loot drops from Darksiders 2. Instead you get new weapons from bosses and can upgrade and augment them with artifacts in your home base.
              - The combat is less God of War (original) and more similar to games like Nioh (Dark Souls is much slower and concentrates far more on blocking).
              - The game had some bugs on launch.

Yeah, reviewers really don't seem to like it for the most part

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm glad they done away with the loot drops and went back to the style of the first game.

Gunfire games remastered the second game but this is their first entry that's purely them and I think they did an awesome job. I really enjoyed my playthrough. I really don't get the hate, personally I prefer a little challenge and less hand holding in my games.

Oh yeah, there were some bugs alright. I had a game breaking one that made me start the game over again. But by that time I had the controls and dodging down so was able to blitz back up to where I was in a few hours.

I don't like the look of the main character.
For some reason, it seems only Japanese can make appealing female characters in video games (compare the females in MK to those in pretty much all Japanese fighting games).

If I have criticism, it's with Fury herself. I like the look of the armor, the hair and the effects the hollows have. But the personality really irked me.. I didn't really feel attached to her.

I liked her character personally. She had a decent journey and the sins did a good job of reflecting her (besides avarice and gluttony). Although some of the character development was slightly off due to the light non-linearity of the sins.

About 3/4 through, but just got sidetracked with Dusk.

I've played the second one, which I loved. This one isn't quite as good so far, but it's a really good game IMO.

The only things that really bother me -

Warping back to the old forge just to upgrade etc.
Would have been great if there were more armors
A bit too much flashiness on screen when attacking - makes it hard to see incoming hits

Nit picks, but yeah overall I'm enjoying it!

It could have been better, but the devs have gone through a lot, so it's understandable, especially since they've been constantly patching it. Over all good game with fun gameplay and an enjoyable story.

Can't wait to pew pew with the cowboy of the apocalypse in 4.

Another indicator that backs up my claim that games "journalists" dont actually play video games. They have a weak point of reference and use only a small handful of games as a reference. You would think this would get called out more. There is a reason it doesn't.. "Gamers" dont play much either in comparison.

They aren't suited for the job if they can't play games.
