Now The Witcher I may never beat as it took three attempts just to get into the game but after 15 hours or so the bank robbery quest interactions throw me off so bad I uninstalled and moved onto TW2
I've heard the first entry is pretty terrible. 2 fixes a lot of the problems, but, still isn't great, and we all know 3 is a masterpiece (supposedly, I've never played it).

My first game I spent ages on was Elite on my Amiga 520. Docking the ship always killed me it took a while to get the hang of it. Then my parents bought me a Sega mastersystem and there was a free game with it Alex the kid in wonderland I played this over and over until finally I completed it, much to the annoyance of my siblings. My first PC and I got Baldurs gate with it. What a game changer this was for me. I played it for a year or more finishing it several times with different party setups. That game started my on Dune 2000. Fallout 1 and 2. Red alert and all it's iterations. Then Baldurs gate 2 came out and it kidnapped me for most of my mid to late teens. I picked up Diablo when it came out and it's sequel (still playing diablo 2 lol) 20 years of diablo almost. I have fond memories of going to arcade shops and wasting tonnes of money on games like double Dragon. Shinobi. Rastan. Wondering. R-type. Rambo 3. I'm 40 years old now and I enjoy a few hours of Diablo or I will load up some other black aisle game like torment. Icewind Dale one of the fallout games. I love them still. My son plays gta and fortnite and fallout 4 now on his ps4 and I also enjoy watching him play. I'm a gamer albeit old school at heart. Best of luck with this site Jeremy.

It takes me forever to beat every game I play these days, because I have twins and they don't leave me a lot of down time. For example I'm playing Mass Effect 3 again, and I will play for 30 minutes, then I will leave it paused for an hour while I care for the kids. I actually wake up at 3 or 4am most days so I have some time to play games without being interrupted.

Rise of the Tomb Raider. Took actual years. When I finally set down to play it, though, it only took me about 20 hours. TL;DR of why it took so long was the fact the starting area was so boring, I couldn't bring myself to play it.

    The longest, FF VII.
About 2/3 through the game and all my saves got corrupted.
I was so pissed off I didn't play it again for years but did start again and finish it.

The longest, without a break in the play through, is one of the games I'm playing now.
    Zombidle:REMONSTERED It's a clicker/idle game.
I have 2537 hours in game since I started in Aug of 2017 (average just over 5hours/day).
Right now I'm somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 through and maybe another 1000 hours (guesstimate) from finishing all levels and getting all in-game achievements.

Basically every game I play takes me ages to complete because I suck at gaming (but love it) and I like to take my time to explore and do everything (or most things, I'm not a completionist).

Elder scrolls and fallout series for me, they are massive and you have so much you can do.
sadly it took me so long because i would get bored, especially in skyrim with its worthless player decisions that made very little impact in the world.

There are other games but they were through my lack of time to play them, i tend to finish every game i play in good time.
Timeframes for finishing games tend to be subjective, i know some people who will complete a game every week and think a month for a single game is too long, i prefer taking my time because its meant to be enjoyed.

Generally each game lasts me a month or so before i finish it. Unless its very short.

Dragon Age Inquisition 6 months (Grindiest game of all time)
GTAV: 2 years (started on PS3, finished when PC version was released)
Rise of the Tomb Raider 2.5 years
Tomb Raider (reboot) over 3 years.

Those that stand out, I think I finished every other game within a reasonable timeframe, or didn't finish them at all.

I don't think I've ever* finished a game I get bored of them and move on to something else. I just get no satisfaction in trying over and over and finally doing it.

*I'm not counting things like solitaire or chess or Civilisation where each game is different and there's no story to it.

Final Fantasy X. I got the game in 2002 and I loved playing that game. I kept losing to the boss battle on Mt. Gagazet and unfortunately my ps2 had issues reading disc so I stopped. Fast forward to 2013 and I picked up the remaster for my vita and spent any chance I could playing until I finally beat it. Fast forward 5 more years and I got the platinum trophy which took 160 hrs of game time.

Super Mario RPG. I skipped through the tutorials as a little kid so I never learned about timed attacks or blocking and was really confused that I could never beat the first boss. I tried a few more times over the course of a year before one day I said "Yes" to learning the tutorial. Press A at the right time to double hit and press A at the right time to block. Elementary School mind was blown. To this very day I still play tutorial levels for any game I get even if it's a sequel to a game I already have with the same mechanics.

I think it took me another year or so to beat it since it's such a huge game. Especially for back then.

Tales of Symphonia. First RPG I ever played (I've never been a fan of the genre) and I got completely stuck in a battle the I couldn't beat, so I left it and thought that was it. After more than a year without playing it, I ran out of new GC games to play and I HAD TO play Tales of again, so I started the game, the fight begins… and I beat it at first try. I don't know how the fuck I did it. But after that I enjoyed the rest a lot and turned out to be a great game.

Also, I don't remember which comedian said that (if you know, please tell me), but it's pretty funny how gaming is the only hobby where you might not finish something because you don't have enough skills. Just imagine the same thing happened with books or movies. Halfway the story, you're asked what's all about and if you don't answer correctly, you can't continue watching or reading.
