I guess the title says it all. I prefer first person cameras myself, something akin to Skyrim or Kingdom Come: Deliverance. I find games more immersive and fun to explore that way. Most modern games seem to trend towards third person though, although we can probably all agree that The Witcher wouldn't be nearly so good if we didn't get to look at Geralt like that. What are your opinions, or do you have one?

Do You Prefer Third Or First person Cameras?

First person, without exception, even when the third person conveys an advantage like seeing something approach from behind. All RPGs and FPSs I need to be in the character, and racing games too. My brain just can't wrap itself around seeing the world a little bit behind my head.

P.S. I am not a game developer, but it's my understanding of how modern 3D games are written, it's trivial to allow both perspectives with a simple toggle switch.

Yeah aileron, but that is isn't the issue, I think his is mainly a statement of preference.
A for Racing and Flight simulation games I agree with him, as first person and the placement in the cockpit helps me with situational awareness and especially judging range and angles in air Combat.

I hadn't thought about it but I tend to prefer third person, though somewhat close in. For me, it gives a wider view range of what's in front of me which is helpful since I wear bifocals. And I honestly don't mind seeing the back of my character's head.
Only exception is Minecraft, where I stick to first person.Coffee potion detected. User gains +3 to sarcasm.

I like first person a lot more than third person, especially in shooters. I don't like over the shoulder shooting and people corner camping with the camera. However, it can be nice in adventure games because it has some cinematic value.
However, although I prefer first person, I hate it when devs make a first person mode where it's just a crosshair on the screen and nothing else. I want to be able to see what I'm holding because otherwise I can't get immersed into the person I'm controlling. My Profile > Edit Settings > Account Tab > Scroll down to "Conversational Detail Options" > Click the Link > Eat a cookie

When it comes to RPGs, stealth games and action games, it has to be third person for me, I can put up with first person sometimes, but I'll always end up wanting a third person option.
I can't play the Deux Ex games because of this.
I can only really embrace first person in fast paced First Person Shooters, cause I love 90s FPS games like Doom, Duke Nukem 3D and the like as well as more modern FPS games like Doom 2016 and Shadow Warrior 2 and even then I can only really play them on PC with a mouse and keyboard, a FPS with a controller just feels wrong to me.
I can accept first person in horror games as well, specifically Alien Isolation and Resident Evil 7.
It's why my experience with Cyberpunk 2077 is likely gonna be a bit hurt as I wanted sit back and play it on my TV with a controller from a third person perspective like Witcher 3, but based on it's gameplay preview it's likely gonna be something I'm gonna have to play on my PC monitor with a mouse and keyboard.
I don't want it to end up like Deus Ex where the slow paced first person gameplay just puts me off.

Definitely third person. I like to see my surroundings, and more importantly, I like to see my character.
I tend to prefer games that have lots of character customisation, including hair, facial features, body customisations, weapon and armor skins etc. What's the point of all that if you can't see your character?
It really depends on the game though, some games just work a lot better in first person view.

I don’t have a preference really. I just play it based on how the game was designed. If they give an option like Battlefront or GTA, I stick with the default view because the game was clearly designed for FPS/TPS and playing with a mode the game wasn’t initially designed with just feels weird and is often animated poorly, IMO. Though, I guess GTA is an exception. They did animate the added FPS mode in the re-release pretty well. I still don’t like playing that mode though.

Typically 3rd person but if the game is very good I can forgive a 1st person view. Generally, the 1st person view takes me right out of the game, as your arms look like they're attached to nothing and interacting with stuff, including combat, feels removed and awkward. In a 3rd person game, preferably with a zooming over-the-shoulder shot, I feel much more connected to the character because I can watch it engaging in the adventure.

Definitely depends on the game. Even in games that give you a choice between 1st and 3rd, you can usually tell which perspective received the most attention in terms of gameplay and stuff. Skyrim and Fallout can technically be played from 3rd person, but it doesn't feel good at all, especially when you get into a cramped space. Also look at ESO: the interior areas are big and open with tall ceilings. Perfect for 3rd person.
In other words, I have no preference. It all depends on how the game feels and how the world is designed.
