    Depends on game and platform...

Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PS3) was fine in FP, even though I was a bit worried how badly it would go for me, the boss battles were actually quite manageable given how crap I am at consol FPS's (and how FP view gives me a headache), it was easier than Tomb Raider, certainly.

For the most part, though, I don't have that much of a preference other than shooters are much more immersive for me in first person, while more fantasy driven games I prefer in third person (mostly to enjoy the usually outrageous outfit I've kitted my character in), and a swing to first person on PC and third person on consol (usually because third person controls tend to be spongier/springier, which is more manageable for shooters given my aforementioned suckiness at consol FPS's).

It heavily depends on the game. I think the preference really depends on how the developer wants you to play the game. Even if there is a choice to switch perspectives, the ones other than default just seem really awkward since the gameplay is based on the default. I don't think that first person increases immersion either. There are many 3rd person games where I feel just as immersed or even more so than first person games. Immersion really depends on how important it is to the developer imo.

If given the choice, I'll take third person.

Third. I usually like to see my character. I only use first person in shooters.

Definitely depends on the game. Even in games that give you a choice between 1st and 3rd, you can usually tell which perspective received the most attention in terms of gameplay and stuff. Skyrim and Fallout can technically be played from 3rd person, but it doesn't feel good at all, especially when you get into a cramped space. Also look at ESO: the interior areas are big and open with tall ceilings. Perfect for 3rd person.

In other words, I have no preference. It all depends on how the game feels and how the world is designed.

I prefer first person because it feels more immersive, it helps the feeling that I am my character rather than a puppet I control. GTA V was an amazing experience in first person - being thrown out of the car when you crash into something and roll around.

Typically 3rd person but if the game is very good I can forgive a 1st person view. Generally, the 1st person view takes me right out of the game, as your arms look like they're attached to nothing and interacting with stuff, including combat, feels removed and awkward. In a 3rd person game, preferably with a zooming over-the-shoulder shot, I feel much more connected to the character because I can watch it engaging in the adventure.

I don’t have a preference really. I just play it based on how the game was designed. If they give an option like Battlefront or GTA, I stick with the default view because the game was clearly designed for FPS/TPS and playing with a mode the game wasn’t initially designed with just feels weird and is often animated poorly, IMO. Though, I guess GTA is an exception. They did animate the added FPS mode in the re-release pretty well. I still don’t like playing that mode though.

Definitely third person. I like to see my surroundings, and more importantly, I like to see my character.
I tend to prefer games that have lots of character customisation, including hair, facial features, body customisations, weapon and armor skins etc. What's the point of all that if you can't see your character?
It really depends on the game though, some games just work a lot better in first person view.

When it comes to RPGs, stealth games and action games, it has to be third person for me, I can put up with first person sometimes, but I'll always end up wanting a third person option.
I can't play the Deux Ex games because of this.

I can only really embrace first person in fast paced First Person Shooters, cause I love 90s FPS games like Doom, Duke Nukem 3D and the like as well as more modern FPS games like Doom 2016 and Shadow Warrior 2 and even then I can only really play them on PC with a mouse and keyboard, a FPS with a controller just feels wrong to me.
I can accept first person in horror games as well, specifically Alien Isolation and Resident Evil 7.

It's why my experience with Cyberpunk 2077 is likely gonna be a bit hurt as I wanted sit back and play it on my TV with a controller from a third person perspective like Witcher 3, but based on it's gameplay preview it's likely gonna be something I'm gonna have to play on my PC monitor with a mouse and keyboard.
I don't want it to end up like Deus Ex where the slow paced first person gameplay just puts me off.

I like both perspectives but for different games... I guess it depends on the game.

I prefer third person. Probably because I play a lot more japanese developed games than western ones.

I like first person a lot more than third person, especially in shooters. I don't like over the shoulder shooting and people corner camping with the camera. However, it can be nice in adventure games because it has some cinematic value.

However, although I prefer first person, I hate it when devs make a first person mode where it's just a crosshair on the screen and nothing else. I want to be able to see what I'm holding because otherwise I can't get immersed into the person I'm controlling.
