Do You Prefer Third Or First person Cameras?

I guess the title says it all. I prefer first person cameras myself, something akin to Skyrim or Kingdom Come: Deliverance. I find games more immersive and fun to explore that way. Most modern games seem to trend towards third person though, although we can probably all agree that The Witcher wouldn't be nearly so good if we didn't get to look at Geralt like that. What are your opinions, or do you have one?

That totally depends on what type of game it is. If it's a shooting game, then i prefer 1st person, but if it's rpg or adventure i can't stand first person.

I like the option to choose in rpgs, I like 3rd whenever the game has a story about the playable chracter/s, 1st person otherwise

honestly I'd like more games to be first person but really so long as it's an option atleast I'm happy

I prefer third person camera, in most cases. When done well, the player character interacts with the environment (reaching out and touching walls, working through gaps, looking around) and it's much more immersive to me. The whole first person view just seems like floating arms awkwardly moving through a more static world.

Third person because it often allows for more gameplay options

Games with a lot of movement options like Warframe would feel less exciting and less impressive if it was in first person so that's good there. Some shooters with nice models and cosmetics I prefer in third person. For the more generic shooters (CS:GO, etc) and simulator-like games where you pilot vehicles or mechs (Mechwarrior Online), i prefer first person. I also like looking at anime stuff so third person games that use anime-style models are also good with me.

I like them both, and which one I prefer depends on the style of game I am playing. When I played Skyrim, I mostly played in first person mode, as it seemed to make me feel more in character. In a game like Watch Dogs however, I am glad the game is in third person. I tried GTA5 in first person mode, and I didn't like it at all. I am not sure why, but first person just felt off.

In a game where I can't customize my character I like to play in first person. If the game lets me customize my character, I like having the option to switch between the two, or just have it be in 3rd person. But having the option only works if the controls remain the same. Take for example Gameryo open world games such as New Vegas, Oblivion or Skyrim. Their first person mode is functional and responsive, but their third person mode is inexplicably laggy and clunky even though the animations still don't properly follow your movements. So having a customized character is pointless because you'll never see it, due t never wanting to play in 3rd person. At least Oblivion shows you your character in the equipment menu.

What I don't like is first person exclusivity done wrong. Half-Life did it right. The game is in first person, the perspective never changes, and there are no cutscenes. Resident Evil 7 however, even though it made great use of the advantages of first person for gameplay, the classic RE storytelling really suffered from the game being exclusively in first person. The character writing in RE games is not good enough to properly develop a character you never see, ie. yourself. They need normal third person cutscenes.

I like both 3rd and 1st person even better when they give you the option to switch between the two.

It depends on the game. For fast shooters I prefer first person, allthough I'm fine with third person as well. For adventure games, RPGs and other type of games I prefer third person.

I am absolutely a 3rd person player. I don't play competitive PvP games, and I don't enjoy the FPS perspective, so if given the choice in any game, I will be in 3rd person 99% of the time.

3rd person, even on online shooters (yes, cheking whats arround the corner might seem like something really annoying but the few TPS i've played could handle it quite nicely)

1st person for shooters 3rd for everything else. Unless the shooter is primarily a stealth game at which point it should also be 3rd person.

For me it depends on context. If Im playing a shooter or if there's a lot of ranged combat, I like first person. If the combat is primarily melee, I prefer third. In melee I like to have a level of spacial awareness I just dont get in first person.
