  • What happened to Arcade Racers?

In a market over-saturated with racing SIMs, where does a classic racing fan go?
With Need for Speed (2015) and The Crew, in my opinion, being the last "good" entries in the genre, outside of a couple of indie titles floating around Steam, Horizon Chase Turbo and Slipstream, the market seems dead.

If you're playing on PC, it seems as though you're doing yourself a disservice if you've missed Forza Horizon 3 and/or 4. Those are pretty much the pinnacle of modern arcade racers, though I wish there were a lot more.

The other one likely not to be missed is the forthcoming Team Sonic Racing. Its predecessor, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed was a legitimately good racing game, as opposed to Mario Kart, which is every bit as much a racing game as Smash Bros. is a fighting game.

I've heard Forza is amazing, just never got around to playing them, and I actually was just looking at Sonic Transformed. It's on sale, too.

Off the top of my head there's a few options for you on Steam, especially if you don't mind cart racing: Sonic & Sega (as mentioned) is honestly the best racing game on Steam IMO arcade or otherwise, I've also heard good things about Distance, Redout, and GRIP. Wreckfest is made by the same company that made the Flatout games, which are fantastic. Gas Guzzlers waxes that Twisted Metal nostalgia and there's also Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box and NFS: Unbounded.. but now we're kind've getting into the older titles so I'll stop myself there.

Oh, nice! Thanks for the suggestions. I've actually been on again/off again playing Burnout Paradise Remastered on Origin. And I've had my eye on Grip. Reminds me of the dune buggies from Jak 3.
