I occasionally watch let's plays if the yt'er in question is highly entertaining (SovietWomble, er... SovietWomble. Did I say Soviet Womble?). Otherwise, I stick with reviews and stuff, which go across a pretty broad plain.

I spend a lot of time watching Let's Play videos for Paradox Interactive games. Quill18, EnterElysium and Arumba for the most part. The reason is very simple: Paradox doesn't put tutorials into their games and those games are very complex. I could spend five hundred hours learning the basics of a game or I can watch someone else who has already played the game a lot more to learn the basics. I don't see it as a waste of time, because then I get hundreds of hours of joy out of the games while the YouTube content creators keep on teaching me new things.

I don't usually watch let's plays at all; feels like the ultimate in time-wasting 😉, I'd rather play myself.
The only let's play I've watched was by RocketBeans (german) for Shenmue. It ran as a radio replacement while I was working and I wanted to see how good those guys knew the game compared to myself.
For everything else: I mostly watch retro and technical channels like Game Sack, Cinemassacre (AVGN, James'n'Mike Mondays), DF Retro, 8-Bit Guy and recently a few from Stop Skeletons From Fighting. Although I already know about most of the things they're talking about and how stuff works in general😎, it's always entertaining to see how they go about explaining it and if there still is something new I didn't know.Steam: Drunken Coder | PSN: Shujo-ha | Nintendo: Just ask | Twitch: Broken_Mirr_or | FFXIV: Marcaux Izac on Omega (EU) | https://www.minds.com/BrokenMirror | The secret key is [Win]+[.]

I can't say I regularly watch gaming content on youtube. If I'm interested in a game, then do a search on it to find gameplay footage (not to be confused with let's plays). But that is about the extent of my gaming consumption.
Used to watch angryjoe, back between 2010-2014 perhaps. I enjoyed his game reviews. But turned away when he started pushing other stuff like movie reviews. He was curiously absent trough the whole blizzcon debacle, didn't even do a single video on it. Which is telling. Also he recently become lazy with the reviews, most games aren't covered properly, and in cases covered in ignorance. The so called rapid fire reviews. And their take on AC:Odyssey was appalling, it had multiple factual errors that they based their opinion on. AJ even admitted during the review that he didn't have time to play the game much, yet he's there throwing opinions. And I just can't stand delrith for two seconds. He really brings down the quality of the content there.
What I've noticed recently is that there are a few youtubers who seem to put out the exact same coverage on the exact same issues, even their takes are completely the same. I keep watching them for entertainment purposes not for getting informed on gaming related things. I'd prefer written gaming sites as opposed to videos, that's why I have high hopes in this site materializing.

Oh, it's not just YT and gaming where I notice this… some may call it coincidence (different people (in different parts of the world) can come to the same conclusion, have the same or similar ideas or work on the same or similar inventions, not knowing about each other), some may call it collusion, often its plain laziness.Originally posted by MadMummy76 View Post[...]

I mostly watch the longform essay style videos. Stuff like Mandalore gaming, Accursed Farms, MauLer, etc. There are a few more but I lose track of them as unfortunatly most of these types of channels have long lead times between their videos.
I've stopped so many videos a couple of minutes in because I've realised they're either just reading news articles from some other website, or they're making a video to basically repeat what some other youtuber has said. I have no idea why people would spend 20 minutes of their lives watching someone else read a IGN article.Originally posted by MadMummy76 View PostWhat I've noticed recently is that there are a few youtubers who seem to put out the exact same coverage on the exact same issues, even their takes are completely the same. Since gaming is a big hobby of mine, I have several gaming channels I watch, from reviewers to commentators. The exact names can change over time, as I grow tired of one style and engaged with another; typically I enjoy reviewers and commentators who either bring comedy or very in-depth analysis to their videos - or consumer outrage, as I am seeing a lot of BS from gaming companies and magazines in recent years.
I rarely watch Let's Plays, if I do it's almost always because it's a console game I don't have access to or a game whose story I'm interested in but whose gameplay turns me off. I enjoy "Nico B", as he does voices for all his characters and provides comedic commentary throughout his play time.

I used to LOVE watching TheLazyPeon, as he did a lot of MMO reviews and played Dark Souls quite hilariously. ZeroPunctuation and it's ridiculously similar AKindAleWar are pretty good and funny. Shammy is by far on of the most in depth and well spoken of the Youtubers I watch, however. He does phenomenal break downs of games, and brings a lot of interesting insight with very sharp humor."Are you Left or Right?"
Bruh I'm just chillin'.
