I haven't been a big fan of achievements for a long time. Sometimes they give me a reason to replay a game like Dishonored in different ways, but that game is so good I would have played it over multiple times anyhow. Usually, it's just a bunch of things that I don't care about, so I can ignore achievements. Progression related achievements are different though. All I'm doing is playing the game and I start getting notifications that I'm playing the game. [sarcasm]Good job game. I didn't know that I was playing a game.[/sarcasm] It's bad enough that games have to waste my time with a cut scene, but now I get to "enjoy" these pointless push-notifications that are everywhere these days.

I have a platinum trophy in a few games, mostly the Souls series, but other than those few, I couldn't care less about them. I think it's cool when a trophy does pop up, and I did something "rare" unintentionally, but I don't go trophy hunting in my games. The only reason I have the trophies in the Souls games, is because it gave me an excuse to play the game for a while longer.

Same here. I enjoyed TLOU a lot and loved every bit, but I don't care about trophies enough to play the online mode just for that. I don't even have PS Plus anyway…

I actually try to get the platinum trophy on most games I play. I just hate the really grindy trophies or ones that are tied to a tacked on multiplayer mode. For example, the hardest trophy in the Tomb Raider reboot was getting max level in its multiplayer mode. It was mostly a dead multiplayer game to begin with, had cheaters and was crazy boring. The trick was to either get someone who was also trying to get the trophy and just take turns killing each other over and over for hours on end.... or you could do it solo by player the capture the flag mode by yourself, which took longer but didn't require any matchmaking.
Trophies should be about accomplishing difficult tasks and not simply be a grindfest.

I love achievements/trophies, but i'm not going to play a game's forced multiplayer mode that shouldnt exist just to grab some, lol.

As an achievement hunter myself, it does bother me that I can play through an entire game and watch the credits roll, put in 60+ hours into the damn ting and still get somewhere south of 30% or something. Just kinda irks me, but only as a general hunter of achievements. That said, it's understandable. As the name suggests, "achievements" should at least be reflective of going above and beyond. Simply beating a game isn't that, even if most people these games are allergic to finish the games they play, lol.
But personally, I really like the newest school or discipline of gaming that is known as Achievements. there are speed runners, hi-score chasers, ect. I never really found my calling until achievements. Just something to keep my eye on while I play into the entire metagame. It can be really fun, especially if you have a few friends you all can play your own separate games and compete while everyone does their own thing.
Also wanted to mention, the most toxic and moronic of gamers are these achievement haters. They always say insane things like "they have no value" and make up lies to cover up their online documentation of their vg failings, lol.

I don't see achievements as the devs making you play the way they want you to. I see them as awards for doing something cool or funny in the game. They can be a lot of fun for people who enjoy collecting them, so I don't have a problem with achievements.

I both love and hate the trophy achievement system. Love it because I gives you something to aim for in the games you are playing. Hate them because its apparently a big deal to a lot of others that once you've achieved all the trophies for a particular game it completely destroys replay value for them and they lose interest in the game completely.
Personally I think I may have like 20 platinums while most my friends have long surpassed me and are up in the 250+ - 300+ platinum area. Largly because having all the trophies for a game doesn't stop me from continuing to enjoy it.

I've fallen for the bragging rights fad. I like to collect trophies or achievements, assuming they aren't balls hard and the game is fun enough.

It really depends on the game, if i really like it and feel like the Platinum etc. is possible for me to get I attempt it at least, sometimes I do it and sometimes I give up. Like I gave up on the Dragon Quest XI platinum because I just can't beat the final optional arena battle (the one where the master summons new enemies after every other round). Online trophies are no go since I don't have PS+ and never will.

I used to be a trophy hunter (I almost have 300 platinums) but for about a year now I haven't really bothered. I now mainly focus on getting 100% in games I enjoy. I'm currently working on getting the last 2 DLC trophies I'm missing in Dead by Daylight.
I'm going to be cutting back on gaming soon to pursue a few productive projects.

If I really like the game I would go for a platinum/100% trophies. I wouldn't usually do stuff I'm not interested in just for the trophy. For example I love TLoU but wouldn't go online to get MP trophies (I hate MP trophies in predominantly single player games)
