The only games that suck are Triple A games.

I still get my fix of virtually every genre from small to mid size companies.

Hopefully EA, Acti, and Ubi will be forced out of the business.

don't get me wrong. the game was good. just not a perfect 10. or a 9, lol. but isnt suggesting the series needs to die just as dramatic, dishonest and... stupid?

The whole God of War series has dragged out long enough... they should either do it justice or stop producing it and make something else.

This is by no means the end of gaming. It's more of a purge of the companies who don't share the same passion as the players. Other companies will come up to fill the gaps left by those that collapse. Thus is the way of the world.

It's silly to think that video games are dying. Stocks are down, at the moment, but it has more to do with tech stocks being down in general. There are studies that show that those stocks usually go down as a result of certain political moves, but then go back up. This doesn't mean games are dying. To address the negativity; it is true that negativity on Youtube has existed for awhile, but I think the recent antics of companies like Bethesda, EA, and Grapeshot has really fueled the fires of the negativity hype. It doesn't mean that it's unjustified, but it does make it easier to try and line up the stars to make it look like the industry is failing.

I agree with this. There's an old saying that says "good news doesn't sell newspapers," which has been modernized as "good news doesn't generate clicks." When there's controversy surrounding a popular title, we just gotta know what it is, or so the so-called games journalists of today want us to believe. With respect to the origin of the phrase, this isn't limited to just gaming news. Ultimately, isn't this a factor of why this website/forum was started to begin with?

If you think that good games aren't being made anymore, please believe me when I say they are still out there. You just need to read beyond what's in the headlines, what's causing the latest controversy, or Metacritic's 'top' games.

Nah, RDR2 and God of Boy game out this year and Cyberpunk is coming when it ready. There are still companies that make decent games free of micro transactions and scams. But it is a shame that I had to get excited about not spending money on red dead after I bought it.

One of my favorites this year, but it will really depend on your taste. If you like tactical games and kinda punk, anthropomorphic sci-fi fantasy, check it out.

People just dont like shitty practices. And it seems gamers are unanimously in an agreement that we're tired fo the crap. It's not a "YouTube" problem. All over Youtube, reddit, twitter and other platforms where the consumer has a voice, we are all saying the same things. It's the biased media outlets like IGN, Polygon and Kotaku that are bought and paid for with publisher money that try to sweep everything under the rug. I know that's not necessarily what you thought you were talking about... but that's what is going on.

That said, people can be a bit dramatic with the bad games. Yeah, the new Fallout and Battlefield sucked. But there were a lot of great games this year. Honestly, if I have to hear another word of how God of Soy was a perfect 10, I'm going to rip my hair out.

Don't forget that the Exclusively Games idea was created pretty much for this very reason, to get away from all the negativity and clickbait crap and focus on a more balanced view of gaming. Just waiting for that website to launch!

While I agree that seeing the same narrative from every gaming Youtuber can get old, the other side of that is - while many of these people do have overlapping viewers, they will each have viewers who are familiar only with them, so they need to share the story in order to get it to those people. Also, I often find that when I hear one of these stories, I look at my other subscriptions to see what they think about the same subject - do they have the same take? Do they bring something unique to the narrative? And sometimes it's just about how they can make this tragedy entertaining while keeping it in the public consciousness. In the internet era, people have short attention spans and we need to keep reminding them that the game they wanted to buy is a rippoff so they don't give into temptation and buy it anyway.

For example, I'm a huge Fallout fan. I was never interested in Fallout 76, but the thirst for some new Fallout would have probably convinced me to buy it at some point. Even after I heard how disappointing the game was, I found myself looking at the lowered price and wondering if it wouldn't be worth trying, even so. The fact that I had several Youtubers - whose opinions I held in high regard - repeatedly warning me about the game, is alone responsible for me not giving in and paying for it - which would have rewarded the company for its bad behavior.

And yeah, in your original post, I'm in total agreement that there's sometimes multiple good to great games to play, and that's another reason not to even care what's happening in the dung heap of games you're probably not interested in to begin with. Backlash can be productive, but so can positive reinforcement... build up what you like to see. This year for me it was Below, A Way Out, Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden, Guacamelee 2, Hitman 2, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus Remake, Spider-Man, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Forza Horizon 4... and I still need to play through Vampyr, Red Dead 2, Dead Cells, Darksiders III and Celeste.
