Your top 10 games of 2018

Starting a thread to hear what your favourite 2018 game releases were. I uploaded the template I used, if you feel ambitious.

I didn't buy that many new games this year, so this is pretty much my purchase list ranked by which ones I liked the most.

    1. Monster Hunter: World
    2. Valkyria Chronicles 4
    3. Red Dead Redemption 2
    4. God of War (4)
    5. Warhammer: Vermintide 2
    6. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
    7. Octopath Traveler
    8. Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom
    9. Spyro Reignited
    10. Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu!

Overall, the year has been decent. I was not a fan of some of the big triple A studios' decisions this year (EA, Blizzard, Bethesda, etc), but regardless, we got some pretty good ones.

I'm a little late for the party but i got a few games in my list . I'm both a Pc and Ps4 player. Those are games that i played and it goes from my favorites to less.
    -1 God of war (BOI!)
-2 Red dead redemption 2 (BOAH! MUNEH!)
    -3 Assassin's creed odyssey (MALAKAS!)
-4 Batman, the ennemy within (started in end of 2017 and finished start of 2018. Come on, it's BATMAN!)
-5 Frost punk (i recommend some cozy clothes.)
-6 Telltale the Walking final season (even with the whole telltale fiasco :C)
-7 Call of duty blackops 4 (i have actullay alot of fun with this game but there is issues with servers that don't connect people together so game feels empty of players.)
-8 60 parsecs! (If you liked 60 seconds, you're gonna love this one!)
-9 Universim (it's early acces but it feels nice to be a god of construction instead of destruction.>>looking at you Kratos.)
-10 Civilisation VI [Rise and Fall] (I know it's a Dlc but for a civilisation Lover this is a must. Why nuke a city when you can just persuade them to join you with your fancy jeans and some chocolate?)

Same here. I have it but haven't got the time to play it yet, when I was choosing which title I wanted to play I chose another game (Cyberdimension Neptunia) over it since I know it will be a long grind to complete it.

I can't decide yet between God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, or Smash Ultimate for my goty. Don't think I even played 10 games from this year either but I'll list them in no order.

    Kingdom Come Deliverance
    God of War
    Mario Tennis Aces
    Red Dead Redemption 2
    Smash Ultimate
Bloodstained Circle of the Moon...? Is that it's name?
    Civilization 6
    Soul Calibur 6
    Assassin's Creed Odyssey
    The Messenger

There I managed to squeeze out 10. Hasn't been a great year for me when it comes to new games, but I've played a ton of stuff that wasn't released this year. Especially Nintendo stuff.

Here's my personal list, in no particular order, with a brief description and my opinion of each. Not quite 10, but I had the most fun with these ones.

    Valkyria Chronicles 4 - PS4
Turn-based 3rd person action game with RPG elements, placing a heavy emphasis on a story set in a fictionalized, fantasy version of World War II. I feel this is the true sequel to the original Valkyria Chronicles (not it's two portable sequels). Gameplay is improved and expanded, but I feel the story and characters fall just shy of those found in the original.

    DUSK - PC
A horror-themed first-person shooter made in the style of it's early 3D shooter inspirations, like Doom, Quake, and Unreal. Graphics are not particularly realistic (on purpose), but art direction is excellent. Has multiplayer versus, and a straightforward, fun campaign with a new twist in every level that will keep you engaged from the first level to the final boss.

    Beat Saber - PC (VR)
VR-only game with visuals reminiscent of the TRON franchise, where the premise is to stylistically slash incoming blocks to release the beats to an excellent original soundtrack (with tons of upcoming songs and endless 3rd party ones). As a rhythm game fan, this is in my opinion the pinnacle of what rhythm gameplay can be. VR immersion and great music gets your heart racing as you move to the music and score the highest combos you can. Just wish I could play VR for longer than 30 minutes at a time...

Red Dead Redemption II - Xbox One
A sprawling western-themed action adventure game that has been almost a decade in the making. The effort put into making the world as believable as possible is evident, and sometimes it's fun to just see how everything unfolds around you, or just put off missions to explore the vast map and find interesting things carefully hidden throughout the game. Built upon the depth of the world, a solid game with a lengthy story and challenging gameplay.

    Vampyr - Xbox One
Action-adventure RPG following a doctor recently-turned vampire, set in a gloomy, Spanish-flu stricken, post WWI London. Well-developed dialog system and numerous branching side quests that flesh out each NPC's story that are easy and fun to get distracted by. The unique setting alone was intriguing, and I was pleased with the character development in the game. Lots of fun, although with some flaws like long load times and sometimes frustrating combat.

    NieR: Automata - Xbox One
This one was released in 2017 for PC and PS4, but I picked it up for Xbox One when it released this year. Heavy action influence in a far-future Earth where humans have long been deposed as the dominant species by alien machines. Well-crafted and fun combat mechanics, combined with excellent set pieces and a deep storyline, make for a great port of a fantastic game.

Honorable Mention - Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight / Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight - PS4
As an avid fan of both rhythm games and the Persona series, I found this duology to be very fun as a distraction from other titles that have a broader scope. These rhythm games themselves are more of a fanservice-y celebration of the original games they are based on, with emphasis on their characters and outstanding soundtracks. Unlike the previous release of Persona 4: Dancing All Night, however, the story mode is substituted by unlockable sideline social interactions with each character. This, and the fact that an actual soundtrack for these music-based games (which was bundled with the original P4D) is not available officially anywhere, leaves more to be desired.

Biggest disappointment - Battlefield V - Xbox One
The first Battlefield World War II shooter since earlier titles 1943 and the original 1942, this game was released disappointigly unfinished and glitchy. Many of the features promised by the developers (ex: a co-op mode, buddy-dragging mechanics, a comprehensive WWII experience, etc.) were either missing at launch and/or still have not been implemented. The gameplay emphasis has drifted from the combined arms aspect of previous titles to leaning too much towards infantry firefights, which heavily favors certain classes and is too reminiscent of Call of Duty gameplay, a series that (while successful in its own right) Battlefield used to pride itself in being different from.

I've started playing red dead redemption 2, but don't see what all the fuss is about.
