Pokemon Soulsilver was my first Pokemon game I owned and got at least 1 game from each generation after until the Sun and Moon series.
Final Fantasy 1 was my first FF I've owned (I now have FF I, III, IV) but I would watch my cousin play Final Fantasy IX on the PS1 prior.
I really enjoyed Earthbound and if I could get Mother 1 and Mother 3 I would.

Resident Evil 2 got me hooked into the franchise and same for Metal Gear Solid 4.

That's all I can really think of because these were pretty much the game series I grew up passionate about for the most part.
My fellow starcraft ghost comrade. No one remembers it until I bring it up. I wanted that game so bad, and still do...just not under current actiblizzard, maybe in 5 years when they sort their crap out. Anyhow, I was very happy they gave Nova her own mini DLC campaign at the end of SC2. That was really nice. They did us a solid on that one.

Genuinely curious how you didn't touch pokemon until HG/SS. Were you an older kid when the originals came out or something? There is clearly some strange gap here. Everything else is in the ninties.

Ace Attorney --- Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (He made being a lawyer seem so cool, however, after three years of law school and being an attorney, I see a lot of his antics would not fly lol)

Assassin's Creed --- Assassin's Creed (I loved the history and the sneaking shit and was sold from day one)

Call of Duty --- Call of Duty 2/Black Ops

Deus Ex --- Deus Ex: Human Revolution (I was blown away by the first trailer and its story. I was NOT disappointed)

Far Cry --- Farcry 3 (Do you know the definition of insanity?)

Ghost Recon --- Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

Medal of Honor --- Medal of Honor: Frontline

Metal Gear --- Metal Gear Solid (what a great story, and great characters, particularly Sniper Wolf and Vulcan Raven)

Rainbow Six --- Rainbow Six: Vegas

Resident Evil --- Resident Evil 2 (The terror this game gave me as a kid)

Splinter Cell --- Splinter Cell: Conviction (Being a huge 24 fan made me love this game and eventually the other entries as well)

Tomb Raider --- Tomb Raider (I loved the story and the theme of Lara's origins)

    Valkyria Chronicles --- Valkyria Chronicles

I've been playing AC series since day one. I've even played all of the 2.5D Chronicles games. From one AC faithful to another, what facets of the series/direction has you burned out? I would love to discuss this with you.

Call of Duty (the original from 1999) and its expansion United Offensive. Then I had to play every game in the series, including portables (JAVA phones and PSP - emulated off a phone) and consoles. CoD 3 on PS2 was amazing.

Killzone when it dropped in 2004, gave me an instant hard-on for the franchise, Killzone 2 blew my mind with a trailer alone.

Finally, a little military shooter series called Delta Force, back in school, some ingenious kid installed a demo version on one PC, I beat it and had to play the full game; Xtreme and Xtreme 2 is when Novalogic added vehicles, more guns and larger levels.

For me, it's a case of 'variety is the spice of life', so there's always something for me to enjoy in a lot of the Total War games. Shogun II is brilliant because of the expansions that add lots to it, particularly Fall of the Samurai. Took me a while to get around to it, but damn is it good.

I'm currently playing vanilla Medieval 2 and twigging why it's one of the best titles in the series (once I finish a grand campaign, it'll be mod time!).

    Interesting topic.

Monster Hunter Tri (Wii). Only knew these games in name and was very impressed by what the game offered. I sunk 300 or so in both the Wii and Wii U versions. I've become a big fun hunting games like Monster Hunter, God Eater and Toukiden ever since.

Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne (PC). Strangely, I'm not talking about this as an RTS fan. I'm not huge on RTS games at all. What I really like about this game is the World Editor that was included. I had a lot of fun trying to figure out how to make things work, writing up jasscraft scripts and doing the lamest art for icons and stuff.

Final Fantasy 7 (PS1). My first turn based RPG. There isn't much with it specifically, but the CG cutscenes did inspire my want for amazing graphics to accompany the games I play.

Resident Evil 2 (PS1). I was young, mistakes were made.

Marvel VS Capcom 3 (PS3). The first fighting game outside of Smash Bros that I learnt to play it properly instead of button mashing. Now I'm playing a fighter every other day.

Apollo Justice Ace Attorney (DS). Really liked the presentation of these games starting with this, and I've gone on to play other mystery games, as well as visual novels as a result. Eventually leading to Utawarerumono and thank fuck because I love those games.

Samurai Warriors Chronicles (3DS). I've played Dynasty Warriors before but it was this game where I really started liking the Warriors franchise, eventually leading to Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate which I highly recommend at least one playthrough. I've also taken an interest in Japanese history as a result.

Super Mario Galaxy (Wii). I didn't have the privilege of playing 64 or Sunshine beforehand so this was just a fuckton of wonder really. Gusty Garden Galaxy has one of my most loved BGMs of all time.

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare (PC). The origin of all my shooter experience. I was pretty garbage in CoD2 and Counter Strike Source, but I got a nice time out of this. Shame the series has turned to shit post BO2 (opinion) and I have hope for IW's next one because I felt Infinite Warfare was actually good.

    Splinter cell
    Hit man 2 silent assassin
    uncharted
    GTA 1
    Tomb raider 3
    TES Oblivion
    God of war 1
    The witcher 2
    Fallout 3
    Metro
That's some of them, there will be more. A lot of the series I got invested in I no longer enjoy COD and Assassins Creed are just two of them, the reason I don't enjoy them is because of the unimaginative yearly releases that just barely changed the games.

some of the games made me go back and play the prequel.
I was also inspired to read the Witcher and Metro books from the games

Two titles that are absolutely worth mentioning:
Metal Gear Solid 1 and Disgaea for PS3.

The MGS series is history now, but the Disgaea series keeps giving. If you own a PS4 and like strategy RPG's, definitely check out Disgaea 5. The nice thing about the Disgaea series is that you only ever need to buy the newest iteration to enjoy the entirety of the series, because each new game is build upon systems of the previous one, just more expansive and higher quality. Part 5 is huuuuuge in terms of content and I expect part 6 to be even more massive if they continue this line of development.

Assassin's Creed. I was hooked from day 1. I have bought every game since with the exception of Odyssey. I do feel now finally feel burned out on the series, but it was a great run!
