I don't understand why inverted even exists unless you're a forklift driver or a helicopter pilot.

A bit of context might be more helpful. Are we talking PC or console? And what type of games?
Personally I only play PC games, and only use inverted Y-axis in flight simulators, otherwise it's normal controls.

I always set it to normal. If the game has a crosshair, I want the button I press to move the camera that direction. The only time I deal with inverted is if the devs are too sadistic to not include an options menu.

Normal cause up is up and down is down. It makes sense to me.

I have a question and it may sound strange... I can not Fly planes in any game, anyone else in that boat? maybe it is just me.. I can fly Helicopters fine. I have tried tryed the inverted and other options but I feel lost trying to fly in a game. My neck gets stiff from my head twisiting up and down and around, i guess im trying to control the plane with my face... lol . Cars, Subs , motorcycles, Tanks, no problem. I dont have any health issues.Seems I just cant wrap my head around flying a plane in a 3d virtual space. WW2 need a back gunner i do fine , need someone to drop bombs good to go, Maybe its just me, oh yeah I do fine flying ships in outer space that I can do. Maybe it has something to do with the horzion line not quite sure.

Yeah it's probably the horizon. When turning in a plane, it has to roll, which makes the horizon go off into a weird angle; that can be confusing, making you lose your bearings. Flying spaceships is different because there is no horizon to confuse the brain.

Look into head tracking solutions. I personally use TrackHat, way cheaper than others. I've been using it for about 2 years with no problem. Games like IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946, Warthunder, etc. are amazing with it.

For me it's opposite. It's the space sims I loose my bearings in, even with the head tracking.

I don't know how you can do both.

I'm used to inverted Y-axis controls when flying because that is the natural way to fly a plane. In a real plane the yoke (which controls pitch and roll) is pushed forward to make the plane pitch downwards, and it's pulled back to make the plane pitch upwards. So on the keyboard it's up arrow (forward) to pitch down, and down arrow (back) to pitch upwards. Lol it sounds confusing but you get used to it after playing a lot of flight sims.

no, i get it. thats why i play inverted. because it seems unnatural to play "normal" in flight games. i just cant go back and forth between normal and inverted. and it seems natural enough to play inverted if you apply the flight mechanics as an extension to the camera controls in other games. so i just stuck with inverted.

I forget what game it was, but it was when Goldeneye 007 came out. I was playing that normal. played some PC game after that. Came back to Godleneye and as like "i cant do this, i have to invert," lol.

Oh ok, I wasn't quite sure what you meant by doing both. Most other flying games like space sims I just use the mouse to control direction with controls set to normal. I can't do inverted with the mouse, it feels way too weird.

Since I am flying RC planes and helicopters, inverted Y-axis feels natural.

                      Inverted.

If you'v ever played the Destroy All Humans games, you could play it inverted.... but you couldn't invert the Y-axis for the telekinesis controls. So you'd have to be ready to mentally switch gears every time you tried to grab something. In the second game you could play split-screen and there were mini-games. One of them was a tennis/volleyball but was played with a human instead of a ball.... Imagine trying to use your inverted sticks to look up and catch the ball, but only to have the controls instantly reversed on you the moment you catch the ball. Totally screws you over and leads to a bruised shoulder LMAO!

I play with normal controls, but I noticed that in Twilight Princess HD, when I switched the swimming controls to normal, it took a bit of getting used to. Maybe I have been trained by games that have flying and swimming inverted. I play a lot of retro games, and I have noticed that many 3D games from the PS1 era have completely inverted controls, both up and down, and left and right. I can adapt to these controls, but it takes me time before I get the hang of it.

Lots of the SIMS games were like that. There weren't consistent, so if you went from playing The Urbs to playing Sims 2 you got screwed up.

On console, inverted for FPS or flying games.
On PC I play all flight/space sims with a flightstick, so inverted. I can't stand playing with m&kb. All other games normal mouse.
