Since you like XCOM a couple of other non-AAA turn-based games that I've enjoyd are the following:Originally posted by Jargoyle View PostHappy new year!
Turn based games are more my speed. Battle tech, Xcom, I even boot up Jagged alliance 2 to remind myself of how good I think that game really is.
For the King, is a great little game that does fine job at what it does.
Mordheim: City of the Damaned - This is every bit as infuriating (and fun after a few ragequits) to play as XCOM. And while it doesn't have the sci fi setting, it does have the fantasy setting of the Warhammer series. You pick a faction and play through the scenario missions with your recruited band of fighters. During combat they could be maimed or killed permadeath style, leading to permanent buffs or debuffs if they cheat death.

Hard West: Kind of like XCOM in the old west but instead of aliens its demons.

Darkest Dungeon: I've had a ton of fun with this side-scrolling, turn-based, dungeon-crawler. You start at a camp where you can recruit and upgrade your heroes, send them into dungeons, and face crazy enemies, permadeath, and fun.

Lastly, I want to recommend an RPG. I just picked up Kingdom Come Deliverance during the Steam sale. Can't recommend this one enough. The combat has a bit of a learning curve, but it's good fun. It's set in the realistic time of the middle ages with no fantasy enemies. This one is all about the perils and people of that time. Some call it hyper-realistic. I have just now noticed that I have already sunk almost a hundred hours in this thing without realizing it and I have only done the first couple of main story missions. Even the side quests for the most part are well-designed stories that have their own purpose.

Anywho. Enjoy!Last edited by Tuklofeign; 01-06-2019, 09:40 AM.

Terarria, Stellaris (kinda triple A but paradox is a great company), dungeon defenders, colony survival, minecraft (get past the cringy youtubers and it's actually a good game) are just a few that come to mind.

I just did a little review for an indie game recently released called Moonlighter that you can check out here:

I think this game is a lot of fun and is worth picking up.

Since you like Xcom, I recommend checking out "Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun", "Mutant Year Zero", and "Troubleshooter".
If you were looking something deep and moody to go with your flu, I'd recommend "Inside" which is like a darker, more philosophical version of "LImbo".
I assume you've already heard of, if not played, "Divinity Original Sin 2", one of the best isometric styled crpgs to come out in recent years.

I'm into a lot of the smaller games like Darkest Dungeon, Ori and the Blind Forest, Dust, Don't Starve Together and the like. There are a lot of good games in that genre. A friend gifted me the old remastered Bard's Tale games so there are those too. There are a lot of good 2D gaming experiences out there that are both fun to watch and play.
