Happy new year!
Started mine with a strange hybrid cold/flu. Turned into a little games binge at the end there. When given lemons...
I turn to Path of Exile to unwind at the end of the day, and for the healthy dose of humble pie. I remind myself that yes, math is indeed hard, and the term "get gud" does not apply to people who grew up with a 2600 and learned computing on an Apple 2e.
Turn based games are more my speed. Battle tech, Xcom, I even boot up Jagged alliance 2 to remind myself of how good I think that game really is.
If you ignore AAA games as I do, 2018 was great for PC gaming. Nothing against AAA games, but if you follow gaming It's turned into a damn AAA 70's soap opera. Who shot JR... a text this week? Watch them get fired!
How will Bethesda mess up next? TUNE IN NEXT WEEK! ...on As the games develop.
Some great little indy's out there.
For the King, is a great little game that does fine job at what it does.
Also just loaded a game called Atom RPG. only an hour into this one. Text heavy RPG with survival elements, Please no spoilers but wondering if any others play it? How big of a time sink am I getting into?
I bought into another early access game. (I know I know) Ylands. It intrigued me to see a military shooter developer create a sandbox building game. Yeah I'll back that.
My daughter and I enjoy Hot Lava. So simple and enjoyable.
My point is there are so many good little games that get overlooked, I was wondering what some other little gems this community likes?
Happy gaming.

I just picked up Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice for Xbox One (currently free with game pass) and would highly recommend. Rainy day combined with dark room and headset would really set a great tone for that game.

Honestly, on a nice dark and rainy game, nothing beats Doom. I don't know why but it just works for me.

Death Road to Canada is a fun little game with a lot of potential for unique outcomes and situations. It's also the most fun I've had playing a top down zombie survival action game that blends with some D&D character based events like choosing certain people for situations depending on their traits or stats. It's got that roguelike feel where you can start up a new adventure anytime that's sort of randomized, and there are progressive unlockables like traits, perks, and an odd Gnome point system.

On rainy days I always play Pc board games or sometimes I read a book.
Quick examples of games I love: Armello, 'Elder Sign: Omens', Risk, 'Fox & Flock', etc.

Recently, I’ve been liking Okami a lot. It’s really peaceful and calm. Another thing is the battling never feels overly stressful. Just a good game to relax with.

I had a bunch of fun playing stardew valley, the game creator is allways working on it.
It has elements of farming, foraging, fighting, mining and you can even woo 1 of the many single ladys to marry and have a child. Spent more hours than i would admit grinding that lovely game.
ps it has some good music that i guess is original.

I still have to finish AC's Odyssey, and mostly play Guild Wars 2. But for a rainy day, Caveblazers is a good one. Rogue like with some progression. Barony, although I already beat it once. Is an entertaining dungeon crawler. Tangledeep, another procedural generated rogue like dungeon crawler. Wizard of Legend. Or if you prefer to be overlord of the universe... Stellaris!
Oh and if you fancy playing with others, I recently got Heroes of Hammerwatch, for something unforgiving. And 20XX for a good Megaman styled platforming with friends!

Seeing as you like XCOM and Jagged Alliance 2, the most criminally underrated game ever made, have you tried returning to the original XCOM games with the OpenXCOM mod? I've spend numerous hours in the first game and Terror From the Deep since discovering the mod.
The Forest is a fun little survival game for a rainy day too.

I would say, Night in the Woods. Feels gloomy, but also happy. Perfect for a day like that.

My recommendation is Invisible, Inc. This is an excellent time sink of a turn-based game, which has some of the best stealth mechanics I have ever seen. It has a story that's minimalist and doesn't get in the way of good game play. There's plenty of variety as you play through the game unlocking new characters, items and software. A single run is relatively short, so you can easily squeeze 2-3 runs into eight hours. It offers tons of customization when setting up your next game, but also comes with several defaults built into the game. There's one DLC, which isn't necessary to play the game, but I thought it was pretty good.
