Is it just me, or is there a correlation between Switches (or Nintendo) and wokeness?

  • Is it just me, or is there a correlation between Switches (or Nintendo) and wokeness?

Hope I'm not running afoul of the moderators with this topic, and if I am, I do apologize and won't bring it up again, but I feel this is the only place I could ask this question and not get called a nazi. While I know of course that one's platform of choice doesn't automatically mean someone has certain politics, and this isn't a way for me to crap on the Big N (even if I don't really like them), I have been noticing a certain trend in the venn diagram where games and politics collide (I'd say intersect, but then I'd have to go broke). There are several excessively woke people I occasionally listen to on YouTube mostly for shits and giggles, and it seems if they are a gamer, they only seem to play games on their Switches and always the most normie of stuff and/or Nintendo exclusives (and Fortnite, naturally). They eschew any other games and consoles/PC, especially when they talk about "toxic gamers" and how problematic we are, blah, blah, blah. And of course in all discussions, Nintendo is never called out for being all the '-ists' despite rescuing a princess is literally the foundation of the company as a whole. I just wanted to ask if anyone else has noticed this, or if I'm just starting to go nuts and looking too deep into this crap...thus why I'm at Exclusively Games so I can actually just talk about games without politics. And no, the irony isn't lost on me.

I have not looked for a correlation. That doesn't mean there isn't one however. That being said, Lysander I think it would be wise to set it aside. To mangle a phrase I've seen used before "Stalin ate sugar." Switch is an inexpensive console that fills two roles (handheld and standard console) with strong primary games (Zelda comes to mind) to back it up. This leads to it being common. You point out that they eschew any other games, consoles and PC. That is where the departure comes. Just because they are outright, in your face hypocrits doesn't mean there is a connection between these things. When there is an up-swell of patriotism in the United States of America, things in the three flag colors see a small bump in sales. Correlation with Switch and 'wokeness' would be solidly countered if you look for those with opposed viewpoints and see if they have Switch as well.

For myself, I have an attitude of not judging based on such things. It is all too easy to make a false positive due to small sample sizes or non-representative samples.

There is a correlation with owning Switch and certain views on things you are not wrong to notice. Same thing applies to following media narrative blindly and holding certain views because of that. You can assume someone's views to a certain degree when you know that. This does not mean it will always come true without exceptions.

I believe it has nothing to do with Exclusively Games and this forum tho.
