Anything Cyberpunk related. I am really excited for this game to come out. Would have liked a 3rd person option but I can live with it.

After hearing Mike Pondsmith talk about the reasoning behind their decision, at PAX last year, I am no longer bothered by it. Essentially, they wanted to limit your field of vision so the world felt more overwhelming and uncertain, while also being able to use that field of vision in creative ways, such as adding a HUD with in-universe explanations, etc. They wanted the gameplay to feel more personal and immersive.

For me, I actually find first-person games less immersive, but the reasoning is sound.

I am looking forward to the release of Cypberpunk Red tabletop rpg, which will update the Cyberpunk 2020 setting for the video game. I have been on something of a cyberpunk kick lately and while I run my primary rpg campaign in Star Wars, I am working on setting my next big game (when this campaign ends in two years) in Cyberpunk Planescape.

I was terribly disappointed to hear "The Last Night" may not see the light of day.

Never heard of light of day to have to check into it
Cyberpunknis an old franchise that was an awesome setting. My GM preferred Shadowrun so that is what we played bacj in the day.. I always liked both settings. My problem with Shadowrun is that they cannot seem to make a decent sequel or reboot to the video game franchise since the Sega Genesis Shadowrun game and I lived that game. Cyberpunk2077 is what I would have wanted the Shadowrun game be like. I can play either 3rd or 1st. I just like different perspectives for different tasks. If my only gripe about this game is the perspective I will still be very satisfied with this game.

"Shadowrun Returns" and "Shadowrun Dragonfall" were both pretty good games.

Can't wait for this game, easily my most anticipated game in years. Planning to build a new rig just to max it's settings, so waiting for a hard release date and will do that maybe 2 months before it drops.

Likely going to lose all of my social life due to this game, and I don't even care haha.

I get the idea behind the 1st person perspective. Makes sense. Generally, I have no real preference for perspectives since it really depends on the game.

Super excited about the game, though. Never played the RPG, but the cyberpunk genre is one of my favorites. Anyone ever read Neuromancer?

Never read that but I have read a few if the Shadowrun books and they were pretty good. Movie Johnny numonic with Keeanu Reeves is a good one to watch for the the genre.pretty Sue I butchered the word numonic.

This will likely be the first consol FPS I get, Deus Ex:Human Revolution/Mankind Divided and Dishonored 2 notwithstanding (for DE the shooting that counted for my playthroughs was basically third person and for D2, pure stealth meant that shooting and super accurate targeted powers were rarely an issue), and I'm kinda nervous! I notoriously suck at FPS games except on PC but I don't want to wait to get a decent enough rig to play it, I'm that psyked for this game...!

I'm suspicious of that game. I saw a 48 minutes video, with too many cutscenes. As a shooter, it looks like a ultra generic FPS, against sponge bullets, with an invulnerable character.

And Tetris, as a platformer, doesn't really offer much depth either. Pong, in terms of being a flight sim, is pretty sub-par. Battletoads is a really crap city-builder.

Like fenrif is getting at... I don't think Cyberpunk is going to be a "shooter" in the same way that the first Mass Effect wasn't a shooter either.

fenrif Your sarcasm level is getting better. Now realize that it IS a shooter.

Not interested. Honestly, the whole futuristic, 20XX cyberpunk thing is played out. We all saw everything the setting has to offer; play enough games you notice it blends together into something screaming "I WISH I WAS DEUS EX 2000!!!" and "LOOK, I'M INFLUENCED BY BLADE RUNNER TOO!!!" The whole package looks generic and derivative. Will see what people say when it drops. I hope there's more to it and I am wrong.
Whatever you love, I probably hate.

The only big futuristic games I can think of off the top of my head are the Mass Effect series, Deus Ex, and I guess Shadow Run if you want to count Isometric turn-based games.

But I'm a sucker for the genre

Deus Ex is based on the Cyberpunk genre and games like 2020; which was, itself, based on the cyberpunk literature of the time. 2077 is no more a ripoff of the movies and games which came before than they were of the properties which influenced them. This is the problem when you come to a genre too late, it feels derivative because it's classic and has since been copied throughout the genre. It's the same reason some people consider Lovecraft or Poe to be cliched, because they have no way to appreciate the fact that they are the properties which made those 'cliches' popular.

Cyberpunk 2077 is probably the game I'm looking forward to the most right now. The 40+ minute alpha footage looked very appealing. I get a lot of Deus Ex Human Revolution vibes from watching it and that game was totally up my alley. It was my favourite game of 2011.

While I like 3rd person, Its an immersion killer and instant difficulty drop. The ability to see outside the character's FOV, around corners, and over obsticles, gives you too much of an advantage (And why BF games don't really hold my attention for long).

First-person views actually break immersion for me more than 3rd, but that's clearly a matter of taste. Having spoken to people involved, I understand why they decided to go with a 1st person perspective and respect the reasoning, even if it isn't ideal for me.
