"ICEY" is a 4th wall breaking platformer which posits questions about narrative design and following the rules without question. It plays with perception and the idea of linearity in a simple fighting game.

"The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing 1&2" are some of the best Diablo-esque arpgs I've seen in recent years. The characters are entertaining, the story is tongue in cheek fun, the setting engaging and the enemies mostly interesting.

"Monster Prom" is a great tongue-in-cheek "monster high" inspired narrative game. It's all about silly scenarios with your wacky classmates as you attempt to make the right decisions to lure one of them to prom with you. It plays at either a 30 minute or 1 hour story and provides silly, happy, fun, with a lot of replayability.

"Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun" is the first tactical stealth game I've played and it was so well done that it made me a fan of the genre. There are a few other notable titles now, like "Mutant Year Zero" which is inspired by the table top rpg "Gamma World", or the anime themed "Troubleshooters", both of which I would also recommend.

"Shadowrun Returns & Dragonfall" are fantastic isometric style, turn based games, set in the cyberpunk fantasy world of Shadowrun. The first game has a definite Noir vibe to it while in the second you play a more classical Shadowrun campaign. Both are terrific, though the third game "Hong Kong" made some bad decisions in rebalancing cyberspace and combat, making the game a frustrating slog for the last 1/3.

"Ruiner" is a beautiful cyberpunk twin-stick shooter with fluid controls, useful skills, interesting npcs, and exciting gameplay.

"Seven: The Days Long Gone" is an isometric stealth game wherein you play a thief in a distant technocratic future. So long as you follow the storyline, the game is a lot of fun, but the lack of inventory space or need for much money (you find most everything you'll need) makes thieving mostly pointless and discourages exploration. Also, the side missions are mostly fetch quests. Still, a good game if you can get it at a discount.

"Shadows: Awakening" is another Diablo-esque arpg, this one with more of a story than you see in most of its genre, as well as some puzzle solving and exploration.

Those are just the games I have installed from Steam at the moment, there are several other small press games I would readily recommend but I don't want to write five pages of content here.

Bad North. It is short fun game with fast-paced strategy, appealing graphics and some room to improve your armies etc.

I second this, as JE is my favorite Bioware RPG. I'd also recommend looking into the In style mod, as it make it into Jade Empire 1.5 http://jade-empire-in-style.com/

Online adaptation of a board game, on steam. It's free. Deceptively simple but rather difficult the more serious you get about it. I recommend it to everyone who likes strategy games, 1v1 at that, with no RNG involved. Turns take place at the same time, so it's a guessing/reading game about your opponents actions in relation to yours. Definitely lesser known, only recently went into EA and needs some more Players.

There are/were some community issues with a certain group being present in the official Discord, but ever since actual PC players turned up we built up a competitive sub group which those people disagreed with. Funnily enough you do not see them anywhere by now.
I dunno about the group issues or anything. But BattleCON is amazing, probably one of the best examples of minutes to learn, lifetime to master outside of something like GO. That game is great.

As for other retrogames, I love both Quest for Glory 4: Shadows of Darkness and The Journeyman Project series.

But yeah, BattleCON is like the best boardgame and the online version is stellar too A+

All of these are on Steam for fairly cheap if anyone wants to play them, they're RPGs with amazing stories and characters: Angels of Death, To the Moon, Finding Paradise, and Rakuen

This definitely isn't well known, but I don't see many people talk about it so fuck it:

    Garry's Mod.
Garry's mod isn't a "game". It's more like a game-engine. The devs of Garry's Mod decided to let pretty much everything about it (except most of the backend stuff behind the actual engine it uses, Source) be changed using a custom scripting engine based on Lua. Yes, the Lua that Roblox uses for its scripting. And so, people have made their own "games" using the scripting engine, not just multiplayer games but also a couple singleplayer ones. Here's some highlights for you to check out. And here's some more. I could go on and on, but I'm not going to. Note that some of these links aren't really good representations of what the gamemodes are. If you get Garry's Mod, just search for random servers and try them for yourself!

***edit: clearly this is not an unknown title per se, more of a forgotten gem***

I had a bit of a strange discussion with a younger colleague at work the other day regarding the game Conflict desert storm.

We were discussing Battlefront (A game he enjoyed for the mayhem and one I said I would wait on since I want to see how it develops/dies before spending any money). When I started picking though war games that I had particularly enjoyed in the past I was surprised to hear that he shared my love for Conflict desert storm (the guy is a good 15 years my junior).

We both agreed that the squad mechanics and atmosphere of the game were exceptional (for it's time, of course). Does anyone else feel the same?

If it's a rather unknown game, then I'd recommend Terranigma from the Snes. Old action rpg with one of the greatest stories and atmosphere I've seen. And it's a happy atmosphere, well, mostly.

Oh hell yes, Factorio is a GEM. $30, no microtransactions or other BS, you can set up your own servers, can mod it into oblivion, and that dev team is one of the best experiences I've had in terms of communicating with the player base. The game is still in a beta state, but I've spent hundreds of hours on it without a single crash. Netcode is also rock solid, great game to play cooperatively if you are into coop basebuilding.

There are some really good suggestions here that I'll have to check out.

As for my own suggestions I have:

Epic Battle Fantasy 5 - a great JRPG game that came out recently. Great for fans of strategic turn-based combat.

Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight - a short and sweet metroidvania type game with a dark fantasy setting akin to Hollow Knight or the Dark Souls meme.

Cadria Item Shop - An item shop simulator where you craft and sell items to adventurers instead. This game is originally in Chinese but it's quickly being translated to English and the meat and potatoes of the game is already translated anyway.

All three can be found on Steam.
