Thoughts on AC odyssey?

I really liked it... mechanically a solid improvement over the Egypt one, but honestly I liked the story/characters of the Egypt one better so I kind of wish Odyssey had been their experiment. My favorite Assassin's Creed is and likely will always be Rogue. Odyssey though did convince me to stay on board for the next one. I honestly went into Odyssey expecting to not like it... and there were parts I didn't like. Romance is so pointless in the game I don't know why it's there at all... I doubt everyone in that setting was actually gay (I played the female protag but every romance I found felt like it was with a bisexual person... no one ever turned me down man or woman).

I always imagined that they left shields out because they played such a big part in the last game and they didn't want combat to feel or play the same.

Maybe I'll have to give it another try but I just lost all drive and interest about an hour in. Couldn't have a better setting/period for me but something was just off. I can't quite put a finger on it...

It's pretty good. Has a ton of content. It's interesting how the game can feel like an Assassin's Creed title, and at the same time also feel like The Witcher, lol. My final verdict after beating it is that the grind debacle is minimal. Insanely minimal. Probably a total of maybe three separate times on my questing to level 50 was I under-leveled for the main story quest.--Going through the entire game almost exclusively doing just main story quests. I wasn't ever "forced" to do a bunch of side quests, but just made to stop a main quest line and do another main quest line for the time (there are multiple).
While I would say it is a better product than Origins overall... there are a few things Origins (released a year before) does better. And I'm not even talking about preference. A lot of stealth and gameplay mechanics have been dumbed down or completely removed sin Odyssey, which is really bizarre. Gone are intractable objects and different ways to hide and conceal yourself or dead bodies. Now it is literally tall grass or nothing. No baskets, wells, dressers or cabinets. No crowds, stacks of hey or piles of leaves. It's all gone!Last edited by isturbo1984; 01-12-2019, 05:18 AM.

It's decent. I like the look, the quests are varied enough, decent customization...
But the camp clearing is repetitive, there's a lot of filler, I have some gripes with the leveling and skills, and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHY NO SHIELDS IN A GAME ABOUT ANCIENT GREECE!?!?!!?! I get that they didn't want us to just block everything but why did they have to implement that in the game with an ancient Greek setting lol.
Like I said though I found it decent. Probably only got a third through it before I burnt out. I'll probably come back to it one day. I thought Origins was a much better game. Of course this is all just my opinion.

Odyssey is a solid open world rpg, with enjoyable combat, fun characters, and laugh out loud dialogue. It's not Witcher 3 but it's probably the best rpg of its type to hit stores since then and learned a lot of lessons from Witcher. The game suffers a little from "fetch quest" missions and repetition but the scenery is beautiful, the voice acting is mostly good, the historical npcs are fantastic, and fully half the side missions are worth doing. I happily put 110 hours into the game before defeating it and another 30 in just enjoying the open world before I finally started to burn out. I fully intend to go back and play again when the New Game+ is available.
