For me this harks back to something Dan Harmon said about a stupid Cat in the Hat game in this: https://youtu.be/JDWJNojvH5o

The game wasn't a Cat in the Hat game, it was just a terrible platformer with Cat in the Hat in it. No elements took actual inspiration from the original Dr Seuss book, which is just completely backwards to me. There are plenty of more well known games like this out there I'm sure

I was about to second this recommendation but it appears they have already played it. Such a great game, improved on the first game in almost every single way. This game set a new bar for its genre.

Have you played "Monster Prom"? It's a lot of fun, takes 30-60 minutes to play and, gives you a ton of choices while attempting to reach your goal. It's a very silly, tongue-in-cheek game themed off of those 'monster high' type cartoons/tv shows. Recommended by me.

A proper RTS like Starcraft or C&C. There's not enough of those anymore.

I'd build a proper, modern military shooter in UE4 with RPG stats based on the units you choose. (SFOD-D, SAS, Gruppa A, Grom, FSK, KSK etc) Kinda like CoD WW2's division system. Single player campaign would play like Urban Chaos PS2 meets Quake 4. I'd get in touch with real combat veterans for consulting and base my story on real missions. Model real guns and have temporary buffs in-game (reloading gets faster the more you do it, etc) There will be a deep gun customisation to the point of allowing you to make your own (real-world SPECOPS operators build their own guns for the job) Get voice actors like Michael Ironside, whoever played Not Important in HATRED and Jon St. John. Make it gory and as dark as real war can get.

I'd build a 1 hour RPG adventure game broken down into four 15 minute chapters.

you'll spend far more than 80 hours. In depth character skill customization with tons of options. It had an awesome story to follow or you can simply go adventuring and see where you end up. You can kill and loot any NPC in the game even main characters, yet the storyline adapts, very good design.

I actually finished it! It was pretty great overall; I was hoping there would be an expansion or something but nothing ever came man! I don't know what the deal is.

Multiple paths to the end with a couple distinct endings, Romance system that is unlocked so whatever gender can sex up/Romance whatever party member they have the charm to seduce! A sick combat system that blends strategy of ARPG while seemlessness of an open world rpg.

I'd want it to be a meaty experience so like 80 hours with some side content. Maybe an expansion or two down the line...

If I had unlimited money, pull and all the right connections... I'd like to open a vg line that specialized in making vg adaptations of popular comics, movies, television shows and novels. But with the emphasis on the game and gameplay first, starting with genre. It's easy to make a generic open world action game or a third person shooter with a Marvel skin. But real love letters to amazing franchises like the Elder Scrolls, Zelda, Halo, Uncharted and others.--First. And then try to blend it with the existing franchise universe.

I don't really like mechs but something like Anthem - a mech game with a story - in VR has the potential to be cool. I'd want good writers as well as good programmers, though, because to me all the interesting stuff about piloting the mech is living the life of the pilot.

I still enjoy NMS from time to time but like you said if there was just a little more to make you strive towards something it would be awesome.

Sounds like the lovechild of BotW, RDR 2 and ARK, lol. I'm definitely leaning more towards realistic, more mentally demanding games after playing RDR 2 though, I will admit
Working...
