  • Where are all the 3d action/collectathon platformers!?

Gone are the days of yesteryear. Gone are the Ratchet and Clanks, the Medievils (patiently awaiting the remake), the DK 64s, the Jak and Daxters, the Banjo Kazooies.

I'm THIS CLOSE to buying Yooka Laylee. Doth any of you fine folk have any recommendations for a gamer like me that wishes to beat stuff up, collect coins, and jump on shit with a bad camera in 3 dimensions? Let's hear it!

Super Luckys Tale, I think it is from what I've seen

I recommend Snake Pass. Better than Yooka-Laylee imo. It's slower and is more physics based, but it is a diamond in the 3D platformer rough.

I think there are some being developed. I follow a lot of indie dev pages on twitter and I saw a few that look like they might be collectathons. You can also consider Mario Odyssey a collectathon since, though it only has 3 collectables mostly (purple coins, gold coins and moons), it still has that collectathon world structure.

I'll look at it if it's on/coming to Switch. I've heard a lot of people say Yooka is serviceable, and seeing as how we're in one helluva drought I don't see too much else.

I was a backer for Yooka-Laylee and found myself quite disappointed with the final product. It has the aesthetics of BK game, but the actual gameplay and level design don't even come close. If you haven't tried A Hat in Time yet, it's a pretty good bet.

Apart from the N’Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited, you’re right, there does seem to be a dearth of that sort of game. Let’s hope someone figures out there is a gap in the market soon or that we get all our old favourites updated and in glorious UHD with all the quality of life balances possible!
