Game controllers are really important but often over looked. For me I like the mouse and keyboard, Gamecube controller, switch pro controller and the dualshock 4 to some extent. What about you guys
I'm crawling deeper and deeper into backlog hell

I much prefer the Keyboard+Mouse to a console controller of any sort. Mostly because I only play games on PC, but also because modern controllers have too many buttons and have become too complex for a simple controller - lost is the simple, elegant, interface of the early console days. Which is to say, I'm shit with modern controllers so I avoid them on anything but platformers.

Thrustmaster Warthog is the only controller I care about. Everything else can be handled better with keyboard and mouse.

I'm actually very satisfied with the design of the Xbox One controller. I have always hated the Playstation controller because I have large hands and feel like I'm holding a child's toy when using a PS controller.

My favorite controller of all time is the N64 Controller because what the fuck were they thinking with that god damn thing. Still played the shit out of it, but seriously, what?

I also think that mouse and keyboard should be left out of this conversation because I wouldn't say that it counts. Technically it's a "controller" but I think it's pretty clearly a different animal.

I depends on the game. For first person or RTS, I like mouse and keyboard. For third person adventure, fighting or platform I prefer controller.

I always hated the Xbox controller. I guess it's because I'm so used to the Dual Shock since 1995.

i understand the heavy praise that mouse and keyboard gets (all those buttons and precision aiming are big pluses) but i've always preferred playing games with a controller. Just more comfortable that way for me. Hell, if it were as easy and fast as a keyboard i would type on a controller too. My favorites are the same ones you listed. Switch pro controller, Gamecube controller and Dualshock 4. I'm also a fan of the Steam controller. Not because it's comfortable to play with (it isn't), but because i think it's really innovative in its functionality.

Have you ever tried using a vertical mouse? I used to get wrist pains with snapping and popping that were starting to become a problem. I switched to a J-Tech Digital V628 Ergonomic Mouse. Changed my life. While I do agree that there are a few games that work better with console controllers (twin-stick shooters come to mind), my hands would start hurting just a couple of hours into a gaming session. With a vertical mouse I can play 6-8 hours without any problems.

I usually use the default controller for most consoles, with a fightpad for the more involved fighting games. Recently I invested in a Razer Raiju (bloody expensive, even on Black Friday) and this helps even things up in Black Ops 4 and the like.

If I do use a controller, I use the Steam Controller. Once you get used to the level of control you have with it, going back to a generic Xbox style controller is nearly impossible. If a game doesn't play nice with the Steam Controller (rare) and I still want to use a controller, I'll use my Switch Pro controller. Ultimately I prefer mouse and keyboard but some games (currently for me it's Monster Hunter World) just don't allow the kind of customization to make keyboard and mouse comfortable.

For PS4 I have dabbled in using a CronusMax to use the Steam Controller on it, but it's such a cumbersome setup. The CronusMax has to be connected to both the PS4 and the PC. Then you have to map PS4 controls to keyboard and mouse, and finally map keyboard and mouse to the Steam Controller. Works great it's just cumbersome. Luckily, the PS4 controller is a great controller so I don't mind having to use that when I do play PS4.

I never use my Xbox One anymore and it has the worst controller out of the bunch IMO so I avoid that when possible. I tried to force myself to use my Elite controller to justify the $150 price, but Steam Controller and Switch Pro are so much better.

Mouse and keyboard is fine but I love the Xbox one controller on PC for games like The Witcher 3 and the PS4 Dual Shock on of course the PS4 for all my console games. I am also learning how to use stick on a Qanba Drone I modded with Japanese parts. I like using it on Soul Calibur but I will probably stick to pad on MK11.

For classic 2D games I like the original (Made in Japan) Super Famicom controller the best (with the original Mega Drive controller in close 2nd place).
For fighting games and shmups I prefer arcade sticks (i.e. those made by Hori), even though I do not like the clicking noise of the micro-switches (and neither do my rabbits).

I quit gaming on pc so I prefer controllers 99% of the time. And I think my favorite controller may be the ps4 controller.

I've bought some 25 dollar wired controllers for my Switch and in a few weeks they started stick drifting. Not really very relevant to this topic, but heads up for anybody that thinks about getting them; not worth it. They break easily.

I use keyboard + mouse and the ds4 controller since I have pc and ps4. I Liked the xbox360 controller and would like to try the xbone's one as well since I usually like the position of the d-pad on top I just feel like it's better for my thumbs. Other than that I enjoyed playing with the Saturn controller and the n64 as well at the time although I probably wouldn't enjoy it so much now with the current gen of controllers. Liked the concept of the steam controller as well, would like to try it as well.

The Steam Controller has a big learning curve but if and when it "clicks" for you, it's like a rabbit hole of customization. You can truly make a game play the way YOU want to with precision and control. If you're willing to spend time tinkering and checking out what other people have done (I personally love watching YouTube videos of others' controller configurations) then I highly recommend you get one.

Cosmocalypse That's what I like the most about the steam controller, it's customization ability. Right now I can't really afford it but I would like to try and tinker with it, that's something I enjoy doing, I'm not a stay at Vanilla options kind of guy lmao
