    The V.I.P.

Very Important, this Person is. The VIP thrives on letting you know that, well... he has a lot going on in his life. Can be just as grandiose as the Megalomaniac, and similar, but with the emphasis on the proud fact he has all but given up gaming for being high on life. He isn't some nerd on the forums, no sir. He is an adult. The VIP graduated high school--nay--college, has a job, his own place, friends, and maybe even a wife or girlfriend. He likes to work out and video games just aren't the highest of priorities on his list, "lol." The VIP is usually a casual gamer, or maybe even used to be one of The Old School at one point of time. Debate the topic of video games with the him in a serious manner and he will feign ignorance or disdain, reminding you he has more important things to do and think about. Why the VIP is even on a video game forum, is a mystery to everybody.

"I like to do other things than just waste my time playing video games"

Just something I would see more and more over the years. Haven't been on the forums for a couple of years now and came back and they are swarming with these people. What the hell happened? Not that gaming is an exclusive club or anything (although I'm sure to get a reply trying to pretend this is what I am saying "heyo~"). Wouldn't be an issue if they actually tried to assimilate into the culture and didn't constantly make fun of gamers for playing video games.

This is the only foruming I've used. Been on reddit since 2012 and that has a completely different culture. I think most people here are cool and down to earth
I'm crawling deeper and deeper into backlog hell

Meh, I have more things to care about than a post like this. I still have an adult life and a girlfriend as well. Well, I'm off to the gym before I go to work.

To be honest, I think a person like that is being disingenuous in several ways considering they peruse gaming forums. If you're too busy to play video games, you sure as f*ck don't have time for posting on gaming forums. Perhaps, they don't want to admit to themselves that they're a gamer (nerd from they're perspective). Like that detective when he's at that bar in Boondock Saints. :-D

Is this post referring to these forums? I'm not sure who you are referring to since I tend to read only the OPs. But I don't know what person this is trying to characterize.

A casual gamer with a successful life that reads forums but doesn't take gaming seriously and still thinks their opinion is the best?

That's a lot to shove into a single person...and there is nothing wrong with them. As long as they are not irrational or rude about it to others. They can contribute their opinion if they want, even though I haven't read anything like this character you created.

I'm referring to at least 4 people I can name by name. I'm not going to, because this is not a witch hunt. But the entire point of my post is yes, there is something wrong with it. You seem to be taking too hard of a stance defending them, ignoring the fact when a conversation turns serious, they tend to attempt at shaming real gamers for doing what they don't/can't. It's usually live and let live up until that point.

Give me a PM and I'll link a few threads where I've had personal interaction with them.

That sort of person would not go down well here.

This is the first time I have been truly active on a forum. I will keep an eye out for that though :P

That only really begins to bother me when people like that start using that to justify games being short. "Sure the game is only two hours long and costs $60, but I'm too busy to play anything longer then that anyway. I have a life."

I've actually noticed this trend throughout the net on forums with a variety of topics, not just gaming. "I'm past it ... but I'm still here to tell you how past it I am."

Ok. What game is that, and what are the other characters. Can he equip a bow and do stealth?. I tend to prefer those. I'm not on melee.

I think it's natural that as people grow up they tend to get too busy to do everything that they'd want to do but still maintain some habits from back when they had time and with enough people like that some of them are going to be dicks about it and feel the need to justify how little time they have for the hobby by belittling other people also I'd think that part of it is that that most people who use forums probably tend to be somewhat older now(what kid would use some weird ass forums when they have social media?).

lol its IS an archtype, lol. I have done several. I referenced the Megalomaniac in the VIP's description... here it is:

                      The Megalomaniac
Grandiose, self-deprecating, righteous, and if nothing else... smug. The Megalomaniac will fabricate achievements, using emotional diatribe to alternately gather admirers and then alienate any and all members who threaten their importance. Always over the top, the Megalomaniac has Seen It All, Done It All, Has It All and Knows It All – anyone who differs in opinion is not worth cultivating, but will suffer shunning and verbal stoning! Often an extreme Fanboy archetype. Not to be confused with the V.I.P.*
                      *see 'The V.I.P.'

"I have played all the games in the series, which is more than I can say for you."

I would preorder Archtype any day. I envy your observational character powers, since I'm kind of Aspie.

I keep waiting for the rest of the cast.
