Grand Theft Auto games. I've always thought it was kind of sad that the most popular game franchise in the world is one where you roleplay a thug.

Tbh I like the game for the cars. I’m in a JDM crew and when ever I do pop on I try and get in friend/crew lobby’s and do races or drags.

Sure, I can see that. And full disclosure, my son loves Grand Theft Auto V; so does one of my oldest friends. I get I'm in the minority in not being able to get into the series.

Yearly rehashed FPS or Sports games. They don't appeal to me. If we got stuff like NBA Jam or NFL Blitz occasionally I could see myself getting them for the hijinks and fun, but normal sports games with forced story? Or FPS where you just stand and shoot things? Nah, boring.
Also won't play MOBAs. I gave HotS a good try and glad I didn't invest too much into it.

Games that are MOBAs, walking sims, sim or RTS games in general, visual novels, cheap Hentai, VR, multiplayer and probably one or two other categories I'm forgetting.
Games from EA and Activision/Blizzard.
Games from Bethesda Game Studio (the dev not the publisher) are on probation pending the quality, at release and unmodded, of Starfield, Elder Scrolls VI or Fallout V (whichever comes out next).I game, therefore I am.

Any game that needs a graph to explain to it's customers all the different pre-order bonuses.
Also, any MMO. I played Star Wars TOR for far too long and I can't see myself committing to one any time soon.

Anything under the horror genre. There is enough things in life that bring about stress and fear. I don't need a video game to do the same. Beyond that, much of the AAA industry gets a lot of hesitation or an instant no from me due to bad business.

The entire point of the horror genre, though, is that it isn't real; it's fake danger experienced in a safe environment. That said, I'm not a fan of much modern horror, as it lacks the fun of movies like "Nightmare on Elm Street" which were a kind of pop-horror. I do like the 'found footage' genre, though, as it added something new to horror and allows users to tell interesting stories on small budgets.
"Senua's Sacrifice" is an excellent horror game which focuses on the experience of mental illness in a very accurate (for a video game) and respectful manner.
"Resident Evil 2" deals with zombies in dark, foreboding, spaces but - again - because it's zombies it's fun, playful horror, even when also disgusting or disturbing.
Most horror video games are about very fake situations wherein part of the fun comes from the unrealistic but still deliciously frightening scenarios.
