  • What horror games gave you a hard time while trying to fall asleep?

For me it would have to be fatal frame 2, i tend to be a sucker for ghost stories and stuff like that and fatal frame 2 just hit a bulls eye when it came to that, people often talk about how silent hill 2 is just full of atmosphere and scares and while that game is really good, i don't find it nearly as scary as fatal frame 2.

Every. Horror. Game. I've. Played. From Dead Space to Resident Evil - and it became stronger when I grew up. Now I am done with horror games.

Dunno if it counts as a horror game... I guess kind of but. "I have no mouth and I must scream."

The entire story and concept that's just... DARK, and so much hopelessness, and you lay awake thinking about how meaningless life is...
It probably didn't help that I played it when I was very young, so I was very impressionable lol.

To be honest, when I was a kid Banjo and Kazooi scared the shit out of me to... That big fucking giant fish you need to swim down to? :C
Don't get me started on Zelda ocarina of time and Majoras mask! The well dweller.... AAAARHHHH!

As a kid, Ocarina of Time scared me with the redeads among other crypt/graveyard monsters in that game.

Most disturbing game (visual novel) for me is Song of Saya. It's really messed up with it's graphic and disgusting themes of insanity, selfishness and despair.

P.T. (Silent Hills demo) I found really creepy up until the final puzzle which was frustrating and ruined the atmosphere.

Overall though, horror doesn't really phase me. I've read hundreds of horror stories, watch horror movies and shows regularly and play horror games weekly. I've developed an immunity to most of it. I have yet to try horror games in VR though, which would probably be awesome. I have a few in my backlog.

Neither games nor movies frighten me, but I do remember being very impressed with the first act of "Dark Corners of the Earth", it creates some wonderful tension and edge of your seat, nail biting, uncertainty ... then the second act comes along, gives you a gun, and ruins the game.

The Shalebridge Cradel, in Thief 3 is a classic and really was creepy to playthrough in way few games ever duplicate. They tried to recreate that tension in the reboot but they screwed it up and once you realized there was nothing to actually be frightened of (most of the dangers are just sound effects) the mission lost its teeth.

Masquerade: Bloodlines had the infamous haunted house which spooked a lot of people and is often compared to Shalebridge, but it's certainly the lesser of the two locations.

I'm a huge p**** when it comes to horror games, though sometimes I soldier on if the game is really good like Alien: Isolation. Silent Hill 2 is probably the one that freaked me out the most.

Hmm, must be amnesia a dark decent. That was pretty scary because of the unknown. But since seeing ghosts i have not been scared of any horror game or movie.

Does it count as a horror game if the game is so bad is scares me?

The game that probably gave me the most sleepless nights is Fatal Frame 2. While I find zombie games tense if done right, they normally don't freak me out when I turn the game off. Fatal Frames ghosts are another thing entirely. Any game with Japanese girls back from the dead to murder me will normally freak me out. This includes Laura from The Evil Within. That monster is pure nightmare fuel.

Not only that, but your sister starts acting all weird the further you get into the game. It's almost like you can't trust her. Such an awesome game. And to think, if you own a PS3 you can download it on PSN and play it for $10!

It's a shame it's not on pc or nintendo switch it would be cool if in the handheld mode you could use the switch as a camera!

Yeah a Switch port would be amazing. I bought a Wii U for Fatal Frame 5, and the touchscreen was the camera. It was great!

Growing up, you'd never find me playing or watching anything pertaining to horror.
Back in high school, my friend lent me Resident Evil 2 and I couldn't finish it. The idea of zombies would freak me out into sleepless nights. I got my toes wet with the Umbrella Chronicles and then another friend encouraged me to play RE2 again. It was there that I had the best time and realized that it wasn't so bad.

The only game that ever gave me trouble at night was the original Doom. It wasn't even the contents of the game itself, but the box art. That scene gave me literal nightmares as a kid.
