  • Videogame Fanfiction Stories. Love them or Hate them?

I would like to know how many gamers out there enjoy fanfiction stories or just downright dislike them?
or if you ever read a fan made story of your favorite video game by simple curiosity once in your lifetime?

Personally I enjoy reading fanfiction stories from my favorite videogames, specially crossovers from different games or universes.
Sometimes I read ships but not always (I am more interested in action or expansion of the lore or crazy stuff).

If you DO enjoy some good fanfiction reading, care to share some stories you love or maybe stories you created?
I would like to read some of that, it's been a while since I read some good fanfiction stories, the last one I read was Fallout Equestria Pink Eyes ( WARNING: Ponies xD ).

[ Try to keep it clean, I respect everyone that loves mature theme fanfiction stories (I also love my lewds), but I am sure the moderators won't appreciate that here. ]
( ´・ω・`)_且~ Would you care to join me for a cup of tea?
    Sips Tea Majeeeeestically!

I would actually rather see Fan Fiction than canon novels. Official novels can only limit the character in my mind, can only take away from my internal narrative by constraining the room I have to play with, but fanfiction is all "otherworlds" material which often tackles subjects many fans are interested in - such as alternate or expanded relationships, family dynamics, etc. If you don't like a piece of fanfiction you can ignore it in a way you're not really free to do with canon publications.

Let us not summon the dormant horrors of Deviant Art.
I don't think the forums are ready to handle a demon incursion of that size.
        xD

Although I wrote a few, (those barely count because they are A) written on an obscure title such as Condemned B) VERY loosely based to begin with) gotta say no. Most of the time it ends up being a Mary-Sue ridden cringefest with every cliche ticked; complete with a cheesy bad guy in the vein of "I AM EMO AND LIFE IS PAIN THEREFORE I AM EVIL!" and a diatribe of a backstory with details pulled straight from the writer's 4th point of contact. Oh and the worst, SELF-INSERTS!!!!

Whatever you love, I probably hate.

I am pretty sure every fanfic writer at least created a mary-sue or two in their lives.
        I feel you man.

Necromancerx69, I went outta my way to NOT do that but I did make my character as by-the-book as possible (the Condemned fanfic) since he's a mercenary turned cop with tours in the Middle East.

For me, it depends 100% on the subject matter and skill of the writer. I do wish that more fanfic out there wasn't in the "erotica" category. Nothing against it per se, it's just that I want to read more fanfics that expand more on the world/characters.

I am more sad that most fanfiction stories never get finished. Specially if you get hooked with one.
But I also agree, not every fanfiction should have lewds on them. Just a good story and interesting characters.

God I remember a halo fanfiction trying to save a random planet from destruction and it's inhabitants.
That was god like, sadly I don't remember the name and I am sure the creator never finished it.

That’s a good point. It’s frustrating when you find something that’s actually well worth reading, and eventually the writer just stops adding instalments. I think a lot of folks write fanfic to practice for their own projects, and probably get caught up in those at some point and abandon the fanfics.

My first general reaction towards fanfiction is "cringe" but whatever floats your boat.

Depends who writes them. Most of fanfiction is written by teenagers who have romance and mary sue tendencies in their priorities. So trying to find an actually good fanfiction is like sifting through a stag of hay to find the needle. I do still love them because it allows to go beyond what the writers wanted. Let's be honest, sometimes writing decisions are just plain stupid or someone does something extremely dumb and make a huge portion of the lore non-canon *cough* disney *cough*. So fanfiction fixes those mistakes.

Believe it or not fan fiction didn't bother me at all in my entire life. Why? Because I didn't seek it out. I don't hate it, I just don't care about it.

                    Neither: don't care for them.

but I do enjoy a good retelling of a cannon story or concept as long as it isnt pulled out of someone's ass and done in an artistic fashion. like the "Terrible Fate" short based on Majora's Mask.
