I feel no remorse for a man, women or child who buys these things on day one and then cries about it later. Shitty publishers making broken devs make shitty games is one issue... morons flocking to buy these games is a completely separate one."

Personally, I haven't been burned with a pre-order ever. I have stopped per-ordering games a long time ago. Unlike most gamers, I tend to see the writing on the wall.
There are excepts, however the mass amount of people pre-ordering aren't buying into the exceptions. Like WTF were people even thinking about pre-ordering a Bethesda game for example lol Frankly anyone pre-ordering a Bethesda game, deserves what they got. It's never even worth paying 40$ for a Bethesda game let alone 60, so why the hell would anyone pre-order a Bethesda game lol

That's just one of many examples, but the most common one should be, why pre-order any AAA game tobeginwith? Hell Unlike western "so called" AAA games, Japanese AAA games tend to end up being considerably better, and even then I don't pre-order/feel the need to. The only time I wanted to, is with FE Fates LE, and with that there's a real need to pre-order, as It's the entire game on a single cart, and the only way to get the 3rd story physically(sadly I was able to get it sigh, it instantly sold out), not to mention It's a LE on top of that(a real LE).

I don't preorder games, but I have bought some early access games. The one I got burned most on was 7 Days to Die. It has been in development for so long now with no sign of improvement. With the most recent build, the devs actually made the game significantly worse, to the point that it is unplayable without mods.

What they promised was a proper successor to those games, not just any "90's/early 2000's" platformer. The BK games had superior level designs, more varied and interesting tasks, and an all around better flow. You say "only a 3D platformer" as if the overall genre is inherently shallow, but the good ones have more depth and fine-tuning than you give them credit for.

Yea I get that, and I don't find Banjo Kazooie to be all that special. You are imagining there not being much depth in it, but there's a lot of depth in it for the genre, with all the abilities you can find. You people were always going to be upset, because you rember BK being something special, but it wasn't, it really wasn't.

Yea, but It's kind of like the people hyping up things like Spiderman, and no more Heroes. At the end of the day, they're just guilty pleasure action games, yet people were hyping them up to be the next masterpiece/must habes, best games of a genre kind of thing, when really games of such genres are limited by nature, and are soon forgotten. I have always found it weird how people talked about BK like it was something special, hell it is probally Rare's(real Rare) worst game lol.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. I pre-ordered the collector's edition. Credit where credit is due, the gameplay was great. I'd give it an 8/10 for gameplay alone. However, the story (what most people play the MGS games for) was an unfinished, disjointed, and ludicrous mess. It was like a bad MGS fanfiction that the author forgot to write an ending for, complete with the most unbelievable plot devices ever seen in the series. And the "ending" (or rather the last story mission, since they never wrote an actual end for the story) felt like a middle finger to Big Boss fans. It was such a disappointing game that it kind of ruined the series for me, and made me lose faith in Kojima's ability to write and direct.

They did a damn good job at such too for what they set out to make. What were you idiots expecting lol?

I will never understand why everyone was crazy hyped though, It's only a 3D platformed, nothing to really go crazy over.

I don't have to much experience in getting burned on a preorder. The one that comes to mind for me is Fable 3. I remember really enjoyed playing Fable 2 and was excited for the third game. I played the game and I only beat it because there was a certain point where you had to save a lot of money. You can either betray everyone that wanted to help you or raise the funds through other means. I didn't want the people to hate me so I elected to do the guitar minigame and earn enough funds to make everyone happy. In the back of my mind I thought this had to be worth it.....the ending wasn't worth it.

    Payday2: Career criminal edition

Oh boy, I regret with all my soul pre-ordering this game it also teach me to never pre-order ever again.

Now you might be saying, wait, wasn't Payday 2 a good game. To that I say yes and no.

Yes: Cause they keep adding content to the game and it was fun to play.

No: Cause the devs lied. They clearly mention in the pre-order page on steam (before correcting it), that the game will come with a large variety of missions and big banks. They released said big bank as dlc content... not to mention the nerfs, guards respawn and adding titan safes to the game.

I never touched the game again after that and I will never support them again in the future.

I don't really get burned by pre-orders, because I pre-order mainly from companies that know what they're doing like ATLUS, and NIS.

The closest to getting burned I got, was probally the Ragnarok Online DS game. It was only available through pre-orders outside of Japan, and omg the game sucked, gunho treated it like a fast cash gram, instead of putting real effort into it. However the special offer bonus items you got for the MMO for buying the crappy DS game, really made it worthwile(even though they are sadly account bound), as a few of the items you got were actually pretty damn good.

It's a shame too, the DS game could of been so good, there are actually some pretty good aspect, but the whole game was like half assed.

Hitman: Absolution is my biggest pre-order burn. The promotion of that game was based entirely on the one part of the game that doesn't suck entirely.

I only preorder eroge, from Mangagamer, who is minimum 5 years old and well known to know what to expect. Only time i preordered/early access was We happy few. After that one i decided no more AAA preorders. Although i might do exception for Cyberpunk 2077. But in general, no AAA preorders, i have no problem waiting a few days to get a feedback from actual gamers and not paid rewievers and influencers

I am going to go ahead and call out the one I think everyone got burned on...Mass Effect Andromeda. I preordered it and got it the day it came out from my local Game Stop...went home and took the next 2 or 3 days off to play it because you know...I was that excited about it after the greatness of ME1-ME3...only to be deeply disturbed by the glitches and random problems that forced me several times to reload from a previous save point just to fix the issue and lose some time and data. But the final straw was when they came out and was like "We are not making any DLC for it" and they pretty much just shelved it and acted like they didn't want to do anything about it. Honestly, that has always been the issue with BioWare is they make great games "Dragons Age and Mass Effect" are both great games...but when it comes to providing services, fixing bugs, and overall support of their games...it has always been lacking.
