Pre-order Burns
I was curious; what pre-orders do you feel you guys feel like you got burned on the most. For me, it was Darksiders 2. I know what the game was going to be, I was hoping it was like the first one but damn i was wrong. I was just surprised by it be completely different then the first game. Now, it was an Ok game and I hoped they would go further into the story but it seemed to be just a tie in. But what about you guys?Tags: None

GTA V... preordered the special edition (it's the only time I've ever bought a special edition of anything). And it came with... a stupid in-game blimp that had no purpose, and a couple of shitty weapons if I remember correctly (I mean weapons that you'd never ever use). Anyway, cool as the game was, it never really captivated me like GTA IV did and the online multiplayer was broken as hell. I gave up on it after a few months and haven't gone back.
Pre-orders that didn't burn me... way back in 1998 (I think?) when I preordered Rollcage for PS1 from Electronics Boutique, it came with a giant inflatable tyre shaped chair...now that was pretty cool, however I don't know what happened to it (think its in the loft somewhere)
And a pre-order I avoided getting burned by... preordered 2 PS1 classics way, waaay back in October 2018 when only 5 games had been announced. Then, as the hilarious exposition of the console unfolded on Youtube (thanks to the Quartering, RGT85, Rerez etc..) I cancelled both pre-orders and saved myself £200. (In the UK the original price was £99.99, or roughly $130!). After just one month, it had been reduced to £49.99. How pissed would you be if you'd paid full price for that piece of shit! I'm waiting til its reduced to £29.99 and then, just maybe, i'll pick one up. But that just proves why pre-orders are a terrible idea.

If you never thought BK was anything special, then perhaps you're not the most qualified person to determine what makes an acceptable spiritual successor to Banjo Kazooie. Just sayin'.Originally posted by Zoltor View Post
Yea I get that, and I don't find Banjo Kazooie to be all that special. You are imagining there not being much depth in it, but there's a lot of depth in it for the genre, with all the abilities you can find. You people were always going to be upset, because you rember BK being something special, but it wasn't, it really wasn't.
Yea, but It's kind of like the people hyping up things like Spiderman, and no more Heroes. At the end of the day, they're just guilty pleasure action games, yet people were hyping them up to be the next masterpiece/must habes, best games of a genre kind of thing, when really games of such genres are limited by nature, and are soon forgotten. I have always found it weird how people talked about BK like it was something special, hell it is probally Rare's(real Rare) worst game lol.

Skyrim on the PS3.
Constant problems with crashing, I can remember I couldn't do a quest because it kept crashing. I had no choice but to but it on pc.
Buying it on pc wasn't a problem, in fact it was my third pc game i had bought being the Sims and WOW.
Ever since then I've never pre ordered games, I've waited a few months.

Thus far I've only ever pre-ordered MegaMan or Monster Hunter games, so I've yet to really ever get burned, thankfully.
But Anthem... Anthem might be the first...

Yea it baffles me how badly they managed to screwup a Conan game. Why is it that the c64 game is like the most interesting Conan game, and it really doesn't desere to be so lol. Can no one make a really good Conan game, seriously It's like that ip is cursed.Last edited by Zoltor; 01-28-2019, 09:17 AM.

Hands down yooka-laylee. The RareWare team had been split up for some time, all working on different games (David wise did music for At least 1o1of1o1of the DK Tropical Freeze). Then they announce that they are doing a Kickstarter for a new project under a new name with a lot of the original rareware members. And they are doing a reimagining of one of their most popular games! This could be a comeback of the century! This could prove that developers disbanded or shutdown could come back and bring the past back to the present successfully. This could set the tone for all wannabe indie devs and passion projects. This could define a part of the current gen. Everything looked good. Character models look good. World's looked interesting. People are overriding the goal. All the cool perks are being reached within a week. They even have JonTron voicing a character! Lo and behold all the controversy around Jon, the bad camera controls, the limitations of unity, big sprawling empty worlds with forgettable bosses, enemies and npcs, and you get another Duke Nukem Forever, if Forever was overwhelmingly mediocre rather than offensively bad. Then this game seemed to set a precedent for future Kickstarter games. Shaq Fu 2 sucked worse than anticipated, cyanide game doesn't seem to be fairing well and many more forgettable games that amass more money than projected and end up at best disappointing and at worse screwing people out of their money.

Only game I ever pre ordered was Batman: Arkham City. Ended up getting ten bucks back due to the price of the game dropping by ten. So that was nice. Went to the midnight launch of the game at my local EB Games. Brought my accordion and tried to play some videogame songs I know on it. It was a bit cold, so that didn't last too long.
Anyway, the game was good and it's the only time I have ever pre ordered a game. I also pre ordered a Wario Amiibo that one time, but I don't think that counts.

There's rarely any reason to pre-order AAA games, let alone "so called" AAA games. They print millions of copies of the games, and to make matters worse, the packin bonuses for pre-ordered AAA games, have a long track record of sucking(Hell FE Fates is the only AAA pre-order I can think of, that had good bonus content, so even Nintendo can't even seem to put together good pre-order packages usually) as well as being insanely overpriced.
PS. Lol why would you ever think buying a Bethesda game near launch is a good idea, let alone pre-ordering a Bethesda game, yikes?Last edited by Zoltor; 01-28-2019, 05:44 AM.

Rarely have been, but Fallout 76 and Hitman 2. Both were $30 within two weeks of release. Hitman 2 was amazing and I don't regret it, but it's still money I could have saved. Fallout 76... man, I'd say I got my money's worth for a few weeks, but it was pretty miserable and hard to defend. Haven't gone back to it, and have moved on.
Recently, I made a huge mistake with Red Dead Redemption 2. I'd been thinking about getting an Xbox One X, but it didn't seem likely, and a week before release, I pre-ordered it digital on PSN to try and qualify for a $15 back deal for pre-ordering two AAA games that month. Lo and behold, a deal comes up that I can trade in my old vanilla PS4 (from before I got a Pro), that I'd been meaning to sell, for $250 towards an X, and get $150 extra off for pre-ordering RDR2. So I got it again for X, which was good since I wanted "dat 4K" but I couldn't get a refund on PSN because I'd already downloaded it, and getting refunds on PSN is already hard enough.
I hate that kind of stuff because I do a lot of things to try and save money here and there, when I can, and a big mistake will wipe out the cumulative effect of several $5-20 savings.
I've been pre-ordering must haves since the days of Chrono Trigger, Metal Gear Solid and Ocarina of Time... but only really pre-ordered if I didn't think a store would carry something if I didn't. In recent years, I usually pre-order a few days before release, digital, so I can download ahead of time and get my finances over with. Other than these three, I really can't think of anything. Have really only ever bought a small handful of games I didn't enjoy and feeling totally ripped off money wise, shortly after release, is a relatively new phenomenon for me.
