    1: God of War
2: Super Smash Ultimate (It might be my GOTY. Need more time to digest, but this is the ultimate smash game, no pun intended).
    3: Spider-Man
    4ead Cells
    5: Monster Hunter World

    If I did 10...

6: Red Dead 2 (Online pegs it lower for me).
    7: Dragonball Fighterz
    ....

ANd the rest are remasters and could be argued they were not "released" this year. And Overwatch, because that game has dominated my time since 2016.

    Dragon Quest 11
    Ni No Kuni 2
    Valkyria Chronicles 4
after that, most of what I've been buying lately is stuff off my back catalog on Steam if they go on sale or I just feel like finally getting around to something that I was mildly interested in at some point...and I don't have a console, so I'm missing out on a few that would probably be up there

I do not possess a PS4 nor have I played RDR2 due to lack of time. With that in mind, here are my top 5 underdogs in no particular order:

Darksiders 3, Soulcalibur 6, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Octopath Traveler and Valkyria Chronicles 4.

Is it a weird list? Sure! But after being burnt out with so many big open world sandbox grind, going back to simpler, more "gamey" games helped me rediscover my love for this media!

I can see it. I really enjoyed a lot of this game, but the Microtransactions and balance issues knocked it off my list.

I have yet to have the pleasure of playing Fist of the North Star or Bullet Girl's Phantasia, but I'm looking forward to them! Have you ordered the Senran Kagura Pinball game yet? It looks to have quite the PLOT.

I played quite a few new games, I’m not sure about the order but here’s my list:

    Kingdom Come: Deliverance
One of the few games I preordered. I really liked the concept of a “realistic” open-world RPG medieval game. It had its moments and the graphics were incredible. I also was lucky enough not to encounter any bugs during my gameplay (many people complained). I spent around 55 hours on it, playing mostly the main quests. One thing that felt kinda meh was the ending, I felt like it deserved a better conclusion. Overall, I’d give it 8/10. Definitely recommend it if you have the time.

    Assassins Creed: Odyssey
This one left me with some mixed feelings. I REALLY liked the game world, the concept and mechanics, but yeah, politics and story were much worse than in AC: Origins. I played as Alexios. One thing I really liked was the size of the map, and the whole naval travel was interesting and fun. As with many games, the ending is weird, kinda bizarre, but I guess if you’re not into finishing it there’s really a lot to explore. In fact, there was enough for me to explore to spend 82 hours on it, which is probably the most I’ve spent on a non-sports game. 7/10, mostly because of the PC interpretation of everything history related.

    Far Cry 5
There’s always that one game you turn on when things in life don’t go well. It was Far Cry 5 for me this year. I loved some of the characters, the gameplay was fun and it didn’t go much into politics even though it easily could have had (just because the story was one of those that can go too far). The ending was okay, it was kinda setting up the story for the next part which is okay if you ask me. My grade would be 7/10 because there was nothing really special about this game, but everything was good.

    Red Dead Redemption 2
Possibly my GoY, because the details and story were incredible in my opinion. I even loved the epilogue, which I saw many people complaining about. I tried to be a good guy throughout the game, kinda hard in the beginning but it paid off. One of my favorite parts was just riding from one part of the map to another, gotta say not many games achieve that for me. The conversations Arthur has in the camp are sometimes hilarious, especially when the gang is singing at night. I have to go with 10/10, because I really didn’t have any issues with the game itself, nor bugs. I just want to conclude this one with: I never watch game streams, but I do watch RDR2 streams whenever I can.

    God of War
Now, I need to start this one with the fact that I recently started playing it, I’m not far into the story and I absolutely love it so far. Mechanics were kinda weird for me in the beginning because I’m not used to playing games on a controller. However, everything about this game is amazing. It’s almost that I intentionally play it as slow as possible just to get into the story as much as I can. I have still no idea how it ends nor how long it will take for me to finish, but so far I’d give it a 9/10.

I've not played a huge amount of new games this year so my list may be missing some big names (Red Dead, God of War etc) so with that in mind!

    1. Unavowed:

Not a big point and click fan, but oh my did this thing grab me. Great writing, wonderful story, engaging characters. Additionally, it's great if you have limited time. You can play an hour a night and get a chapter done. Wonderful game, highly recommend.

    2. Monster Hunter World:

It's Monster Hunter, but now I can get my friends to play it without trying to sell them on a 3DS, Switch or Wii U. Win-win.

    3. Project Warlock:

Old-school FPS with a silky smooth flow. Loved it, even if some of the levels are so dark you need to up the brightness.

    4. Squad:

Bit of a cheat here. Still in early access, but the game keeps getting better and better with each update. Wonderful mechanics, great player base. My go-to multiplayer game of choice for the past year and a bit.

    5. Yakuza 0 (PC)

    Dance-offs.

I don’t think I have one this year. I had games I enjoyed but nothing stuck out. Last year (?) I would say Horizon Zero Dawn, AC Origins, Ori, Yakuza Zero and Hellblade. Hellblade might actually be my number one. It was such an experience. A true love-hate piece of work.

I can't even reach a top 5 I think (i'm very picky), but i'll give my top picks which include DLC.

    1. Boundless (PS4 version) This is a great game, well I should say it was a great game because the player count/economy has decreased dramatically after the first few weeks of release. It was a great game and I enjoyed it a lot when it had an active community after release. But this is one of these games that's just not as enjoyable without a steady community.

    2. Crusader Kings 2: Holy Fury DLC. The DLC adds a ton of fun to an already fun game of conquering historical Europe.

    3. Dark Souls Remastered. Now I haven't played this for more than a few hours yet because of other releases, but it will actually be my first playtrough and from what I've seen of it I know this is gonna be a fun Souls game. Maybe I shouldn't put it on the list yet, but I've got nothing else to put on and i've derived my account name from one of it's tales I read about in advance because it had appeal on me.

In all honesty for me and what I play and have played this year nothing besides those 2 stand out as games deserving of any recognition. I do know Spiderman and Monster Hunter World were well received I just am not into those games that much so I am not including them. A lot of stuff I have been playing came out last year and am still playing them now like Total War Warhammer 2. Hoping there are some more stand out titles next year and not more of the same.
