Ultimately the Epic Store sucks compared to Steam, and the thinking it going kill Steam is absurd. Unless Epic overhauls their store, its going to become a dumpster fire. Origin or Uplay have more potential to kill Steam, than the Epic Games Store does at the moment and the exclusives aren't going to save it from being the most inferior launcher. Also I doubt the free game every month is going to incentives people to switch over,I have a feeling people are just going to claim the game and then move on.

I like Gog.com for one reason: you can download and backup the .exe so if/when they shut down, you still have your hands backed up

My only personal complaint is it's ANOTHER thing I have to download and use and keep track of. Having everything in one place is just a matter of convenience which is why I prefer Steam.

You probably should have titled this post "Why I'm OK with Epic Store" rather than coming to their defense, as I can't say you make particularly good arguments.

Point 1 - Not affecting you does not mean that it's OK to the gaming community at large. I don't see how this defends Epic.

Point 2 - Exclusivity is a known negative for consumers. It's OK because it's cheaper (for now) is not a good defense.

Point 3 - That's fine if you want yet another launcher that contains who knows what on your system; many PC gamers by now have developed some preference. Again, because it (might) be cheaper is not really a good argument.

Point 4 - You admit your bias (which is appreciated), but devs will not avoid criticism, not with the multiple ways gamers communicate and share opinions/reviews. I think gamers are savvy enough to know when devs are being greedy (lootboxe$, P2W) versus indie devs trying to make an impact/statement with their work.

Keep at it and please do post a link to your work, I'm sure you will find a supportive group here that will give you honest feedback.

Good luck to you, it was interesting to read your post and the replies.

Im not gonna switch to epic games store, I dont mind that it brings some competition.

What i do hate is how
-their store is garbage in usability.
-no reviews or anything of the sort.
-exclusivity of games (also hate that for any other store)
    - How they already leaked my info multiple times. Their security is worse than origin at this point if you ask me.
    -refund policy is garbage

Im probably gonna stay away from it just like i stay away from origin.

Alas, because of their exclusivity BS, it's the only place you can buy stuff from.

Now here are real reasons we don't approve

    1) Epic has only had to provide a storefront for like 3 games and an engine, they have been incompetent every step of the way and has managed to allow hackers to obtain the information of users three times since it launched.

    2) Developers seeing a bigger chunk of revenue means nothing to me if the price is exactly the same.

    3) I take no issue whatsoever with Epic making a store and trying to compete, but paying for exclusivity deals is not giving me a choice, so I have no option but to just skip games I want to play and hope enough other follow me in doing so, so the developers will be forced to stop making these stupid deals with Epic.

I've been forced to install Uplay and Origin (and I highly dislike using both of them) but I don't know anyone who owns a single game on Origin that was not published by EA, nor a single game on Uplay not published by Ubi. So the reality is I have to go though account hurdles to manage Uplay, Origin, Battle.net, and now Epic just to play 3-4 games per launcher.. this is stupid.

It's not creating competition or choice of its exclusive.

It's only good for companies involved.

No. This is another thing people get wrong. "Epic is just starting" is utter nonsense. Steam already paved the way for how a digital store should be, every other store copied their business model and tried to make improvements over it. There is no reason to launch a store that isn't feature complete.

I don't think so. At least, there aren't any mentions of achievements in their game pages.

Not yet, prices still appear in dollars and the conversion isn't fair.

Thomas_JCG That doomsday scenario will never happen, from the developers, to the backlash, to the lack of sales... thats something the "market" itself will not allow to happen.

Note that i play console so i dont have a dog in this fight
