I would have to answer that with "around, at least, 20 excellent exclusive games", ah, I only buy last generation consoles and just the exclusive games, I have around 100 original Playstation 2 games that cost a total of around.. I would have to say less than 500 euros, I am quite lax and liberal with the age and graphical quality of an old console game, there is a liberating aspect to it, playing an old game you know it is going to be dated, that you can not touch or adjust in any way, it is so serene, you only slide in the disk and that is it, no spending an entire day roaming around the Internet trying to figure out how or even if the game can be run in ultrawide, or how to fix the horrible aliasing or terrible controls (to this day I can not, in any shape or form, play Resident Evil 4 HD, it is just not possible, that game does not want to be played).

I would love to grab a Playstation 3 console and just fill my collection with every single game that came out from Japan but, for the pain of me, oh why do people still ask 150 euros for a 10 year old console? oh yeah, where I live people still think that there is a good idea to ask for, at least, 100 euros for ten year old hardware that might die any moment now. Okay, if I was going to buy a current generation console? They are really cheap, to be honest, I would say a minimum of 10 good exclusive games, if they were cheap, no way I hell I am going to give more than 20 euros for a game, no matter the format, not the way they are being shipped (imagine being one of the poor fools that bought Fallout 76 for 60 euros...).

For me it depends on the game itself and not how many it takes. I bought the Wii for monster hunter, xenoblade and 2 other jrpgs I forget the names now. The wii U for xenoblade x and zelda and recently the switch for xenoblade 2, monster hunter and pokemon. I've always gotten playstations and haven't found a reason to get the xbox 1 yet.

usually it's not quantity its just that one MUST HAVE game that breaks it

It's not a question of how many for me, but how long I'm going to spend playing them.

This right here... to me, a game's replayability or play-time (without getting either boring or gaming-without-thinking (however fun that may or can be)) dictates the value of owning the console it's on.

I originally wanted to get a PS3 just for InFamous (ended up getting a second hand one from a work-friend and bought the game after within twelve hours). Turns out, Assassin's Creed IV got me my money's worth from it, though. I own all of a dozen or so games for the PS3 (mainly PC) and even fewer for PS4, and I don't think I've wasted my money at all.

Probably three is all for me. By the time I get done with those three, there's usually something else out that I want.

It depends on the game and price of the console.
If it's a game that i will be playing for a long time like Smash I don't mind getting it for just one game.
I also got a used PS3 to pretty much just play Persona 5, but there i payed like 50 bucks for the console.

I have been using Sony's consoles ever since the early days of the PS1 (wasn't one of the people to get one when it came out but had one within maybe a year of release). Over time I have found myself playing games more on PC to a point where I barely use my PS4 unless it is a exclusive game or one I really want to play. I have in the past couple of years looked at the XBox One, seen a few exclusives I'd like ot try but I honestly can't justify it because the way O see it is that, if I am barely using my PS4, then if I get a XB1 it's more than likely going to sit there never used or barely used and it'd be a waste of money I (or if it is a present someone else). I would really need to look at the console and find a bunch of games I wanted to play and that made it worth me getting the console even then I would still ned the time to use it and currently that is something I simply don't have.

I only get Nintendo consoles with the expectation to at least enjoy Pokemon and Smash bros but know I'll play other games on it. So 2+

I got my Switch for the Sole purpose of a Super Smash Brothers' somewhere down the line, but I got to experience so many games along the way. It's hard to say because there were a lot of games I wanted to try out but weren't 100% on buying. I am glad I did, though.I guess as long as there's one I really want that's enough as long as there are other games I can invest in as well.

Heck, I got a PS4 just to play Overwatch lol.

We buy them all eventually. I'm an Xbox guy primarily, so usually I get those first. Followed by PS unless Nintendo has something new first (I got the switch before PS4 this go around). So I"m usually good with whatever is out at the time, because they all always something I want to play right out of the gate.

I can't really put a number on it, because back during the seventh gen I was nearly tempted to get a Wii for the Resident Evil Chronicles games, Dead Space: Extraction, Smash Bros, and Fire Emblem, but the first three eventually all went multi-plat anyway. Even so, the five wasn't enough to justify getting a system I knew I wouldn't really like. I'm just sticking with Sony products these days as I find it's a safe bet, I love The Last of Us, and I enjoy the controller best.
I don't always play games, but when I do...I want them free of politics.

I mean, it depends on how hard those games hit. PS4 has a few games that look amazing. Horizon: Zero Dawn, God of War, Spider-man, K̶n̶a̶c̶k̶ ̶2̶, Bloodborne. It's not many but these are huge games. Meanwhile the Xbox has the Horizons series (which I love, but you can play them on PC).

How much longer do I have to wait for the PS4 to get so low I can justify buying it only for Bloodborne?

Price of a console/cost of the games = minimum number of games.
