I have a pretty diversified gaming profile, fairly proficient at many genres. However, I typically do not play and struggle with: 1) fighting games; and 2) racing games. I am willing to game out of my comfort zone and try my hand at these. I am interested in what the EG community has to provide. Thanks!

1: For fighting games, what everyone has listed above is great. For good stuff that is popular now, check out Dragonball Fighterz and Smash Ultimate. Those games will be around for the long haul.
2: Forza is the dominant game in this genre right now. If you want former bad ass racing games, go burnout.

I would recommend Dirt Rally (https://store.steampowered.com/app/310560/DiRT_Rally/) - it is pretty versatile game that can be had for as low as 5 euros (if you put it on wishlist and wait for sale, there is one about once in every 2 months)

Unfortunately I haven't played a Fighting game since Tekken Tag tournament. However a racing game I thoroughly enjoyed was Grid 2. The handling mechanics were some of my favorite to date. Realistic enough to feel like a real driver but arcady and loose enough to be a lot of fun. I haven't played it but I hear only great things about Burnout Paradise. Also if you can hack the frustration of being punished for lapses in concentration Dirt Rally is pretty good too.Have you ever thought about registering as a sex offender just so your friends won't bring their kids over to your house?

I love Tekken, all the way from 1 upto 7. Trying my hand at the versus matches in Japanese arcades showed me up though, I was getting beat 8 times out of 10. Ive never used a stick to play really though, I'm loads better with a controller but now am considering getting into stick fighting.
Aquapazza: Aquaplus Dream Match is fun. Rival Schools is good. Heard good things about Persona 4 arena.
Killer Instinct on the Snes is awesome, one of my all time faves.
Human Killing Machine on the Amiga/Atari ST... Possibly the worst fighting game ever lol.
Any kind of sim racing game will push you to the limits. Try a MotoGP bike racing game to switch it up from cars.... Loads of fun.Last edited by Tech_0ne; 12-13-2018, 06:41 AM."it was the daedric prince of douchebaggery in disguise"

Man..... everyone already gave all the good suggestions. Well there’s fighting game called marvel VS Capcon 3 but warning you will Be destroyed if you play online. As a racing game the only game I can think of that hasn’t been mentioned is Diddy Kong racing, its fun with multiple characters and vehicles.

Because it's on a 3D plane. How many fighting games have you sidestepping as one of the main mechanics? It's not just a backdash or teleport that can be your defensive options.Originally posted by decoyOctopus View PostIf you REALLY want to get out of your comfort zone, I'd suggest Tekken 7. But be warned, it has a steep learning curve and you WILL get beaten a lot.
Just the movement and repositioning in a 3D plane it's a major learning curve.

If you can manage to find a copy of it, Marvel VS Capcom 2, it did come out on Xbox original, PS2 I believe, and maybe something else. Solid fighting game to learn on. Soul Caliber 2 as well. From what I remember, if you know a genre you wanna get into, start with the earlier titles, as most are easier to learn, less features and all that, and slowly build up to a more modern title. But when you approach modern titles, do research to make sure they are even worth attempting.
Dead or Alive 5 for instance, has AI that always counters your button inputs for example. Wait, that might be Soul Caliber 5. anyway, one of the fighting titles has input countering, which makes the game not fun to play.
