    What Do You Play TODAY

The purpose of this thread is to have an ongoing discussion where people periodically check in with the games they are currently playing and any opinions and comments they have about their experience. Hopefully few years from now we can extrapolate a nice detailed timeline of what kept members attention the longest, why, etc

To start off, I'm playing Quake Champions today.
Returned to it after several months hiatus, despite the criticism the game faces, I like it a lot and I find it very reminiscent of the times I spent with Quake 3 Arena back in the day.
Coming in it after 2000 hours of CS:GO, I see zero problems with performance, networking, gunplay, or matchmaking. It's all between acceptable and great.
The only criticism I currently have of it, is the most banal one - balance. They put a lot of effort and not nearly enough brain in balancing heroes. As a huge DOOM 16 fan, I was disappointed to find that the DOOM SLAYER is empirically weaker compared to a lot of other heroes.
Regardless, I plan to keep playing it along with Path of Exile (coming from Diablo 3), but I have too much to share about that game, and none of it comes from a place of knowledge or experience, so I'd rather keep it to myself for now

So what are you guys up to? What do you play, how does it run, is it fun, how do you see it going forward, and can you recommend it to other forum members?

I have been playing a lot of Surviving Mars lately. Ever since the latest update and 1st DLC the game has become quite a lot more entertaining with better mission goals, more varied random events, new mysteries and generally speaking a ton of minor upgrades to the base game. There's not a lot of "race" in the Space Race DLC, but it does come with a few nice things. The vast majority of improvements are part of the free updates. I feel like there's a little more of an emphasis on "surviving" in Surviving Mars. The plethora of new options available to make the game harder certainly help.

The only thing that really bugs is that the colonists have free will. They have a tendency to change from one work building to the next at random intervals, so in order to keep the production of essential materials flowing, I have to keep checking that everyone is where I expect them to be. More often than not someone has taken it upon themselves to change their workplace and I have to assign them back to where they used to work. It's a little bit of a pain to do, but at least I can now restrict most buildings to only accept workers with the appropriate specialization.

I'm looking forward to seeing what new things are coming to the game. Haemimont Games is making updates, but not quite at the usual break-neck speed that I have come to expect from Paradox Interactive. Then again...less "hot code" and "beta" issues.

The games I played today were CSGO and Sleeping Dogs. I just hit 700 hours in CSGO, and I plan on ranking up to gold nova by the end of the month. Sleeping dogs is a ton of fun; I am really enjoying the story and the gameplay. I am about less than 20% done with the story, and I am unsure how the story will unfold. However, I can't wait to find out because it has been interesting so far.

I also recently got 100% of the achievements for Dwarfs?!, and I am playing through Mount & Blade: Warband. I didn't play either of those games today though.

All of the games i have mentioned in this post are worth full price. (I bought at least 3 of them when they were on sale though :P )

Right now, I'm currently playing Splatoon 2 and Smash Ultimate on my Switch. although I've already beaten the campaigns on both of them, I still still enjoying the multiplayer and the wins. Funny thing... the only two online games I am enjoying right now are on Nintendo.

And also currently playing Hallow Knight and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, both on the Xbox One X. Hollow Knight is fantastic.--It pains me to say so, but it just might be as good as Ori and the Blind Forest, if not better. and haven't gotten far enough into Tomb Raider to give any opinion on it, other than it looks pretty.

I'm currently playing Hollow Knight. I got to say that although it's a good game, I'm not sure it's quite as good as I was hoping because it came so highly recommended and Metroidvania is my favorite genre.

I'm fine with limited direction, but there is almost no direction whatsoever. This is just my opinion, but other Metroidvanias have been done better. I finished Ori and the Blind Forest and both Steamworld Dig games recently and I think the best one I've played is Steamworld Dig 2. If you turned off map markers like I did, then there was just enough direction to keep you going and exploring. Steamworld Dig 1 is arguably better in that respect because you had no map markers to turn on, you had one main objective, keep digging, and you found stuff along the way.

Again, I'm enjoying Hollow Knight well enough and I'm going to keep playing it, but I do hope that sometime soon there is a bit more of a clear idea of what I'm trying to accomplish. Currently it's just explore and kill things working toward... I don't know yet.

I'm currently playing "My Time at Portia" apart from the usual online games like Rocket League and League of Legends. I'm planning to do a Kingdom Hearts month in February and play all the games I can put my hands on and watch the cutscenes from the ones I won't be able to play and top it off with Kingdom Hearts 3.

I keep having to come back to Assassin's Creed: Odyssey because of the scattered DLC releases, and as a fan of the franchise and someone who likes to finish what he starts, that compels me to play a game that...look, I get a ton of people really like where AC is going lately, but I'm just not one of them. I keep having to put it forward that ever since I finished Final Fantasy XIII, I just haven't had the stomach for RPGs, especially RPGs with multiple endings, achievements/trophies that you have to play the game ten times to unlock them all, dialogue trees that expand both of those prior things tenfold, level grinding, and specifically avoid games like that because it's just not what I want to play. And if I did, I'd go play Witcher 3, or Kingdom Come, or actually finish Skyrim (the game where it really hit me how much I didn't want to play those games anymore). As such, AssCreed and the Arkham series are exactly my speed. I'm the kind of guy who plays those games over and over just because I love the story and I love challenging myself to unlock upgrades in a different order (or not at all), that sort of thing. I mean, I play Arkham City and Arkham Origins a couple of times per year. I played AC: Rogue Remastered three times last year, alone. So...that'st he headspace I'm in when I talk about AC: Odyssey.

And I'm just not into this game, although it's better than it was at launch. I did complain a fair bit to Ubisoft about how the level cap (and don't get me started on the leveling system in Odyssey) basically made side quests pointless. I absolutely despise the enemy level-syncing where they're always as powerful as you are, which just makes leveling itself a matter of grinding so you don't die in some geographical zone, and not much else. Origins at least made that optional. There's the soul-destroying fact that they dumped the Juno plotline (i.e., everything after AC3) to the comic books that utterly pisses me off. There's the fact that the whole game feels, if you'll permit me the analogy, like the video-game equivalent of the Krypton or Alfred Pennyworth TV shows, where Origins already felt like Smallville or Gotham (i.e., how far back can you go and still make me think you understand what people see in Batman and Superman to begin with?). I don't demand TOO much from an AC game, but Assassins is one of them. And whereas I enjoyed Origins because it offered options, Odyssey doubled down on all the things I didn't like about that game and effectively removed the things I did. It took me two months to finish the main campaign because playing it is like pulling teeth to me, and I'm propelled only by my love of the series. The only thing I HAVE enjoyed is the Legacy of the First Blade DLC, but now with Ubisoft caving to demands (and how they're going to handle the necessary lineage issue that feels like about the only thing remaining that got me into the series is beyond me), it's looking like I'll have to play the game again just to online one stupid achievement that they said they'll be adding in the upcoming patch. And that just outright pisses me off. I don't want to play this game again, but having one outstanding achievement is the kind of thing that drives me nuts.

And worse, it's killing my already in-jeopardy ability to enjoy playing games as it is (transparency note: I deal with major depressive disorder, and these days enjoying my hobbies at all seems to lose out all too often to "preferring" to stare at my ceiling fan for hours on end, instead), as I can't seem to enjoy other games I haven't completed such as Spider-Man, LEGO DC Villains, and RDR2, as I have this tendency to not be able to concentrate too much on a game if I know another I've been working on is incomplete.

So basically, TL;DR, I'm just a miserable bastard who has all kinds of issues right now and it's pissing me off that Assassin's Creed would rather ride the coattails of other popular games than continue to be its own thing for gamers like myself and others who loved it for what it was.

Currently playing through Resident Evil 2 as Leon. I'm in NEST, so I'll start Claire's story shortly after. Hopefully I can beat that before Kingdom Hearts 3 releases.

Redownloaded and started a new Titan on Destiny 2 this morning before the kiddo got up and wanted the tv...she has her own but always wants the big tv in the living room...
I also got all the new DLC content with it so wanted to start from scratch and work my way back through all the Campaign and the new DLC's. It will take some time but I think it will be rewarding. Plus it gives me something else to play so I don't get burned out on Neverwinter. I haven't gotten far enough in it yet to really say much about the DLC's yet but hopefully, I will sooner rather than later.

Also playing Game of Sultans on Mobile. It is pretty good for a casual game that doesn't require a great deal of strategy and you won't get the nice 2 am to 4 am messages on your phone about someone raiding you for resources and them being about 10 levels higher than you so that is always a pro. Today is War day on there though so I have peeps I have to make sure they are putting in their attacks but other than that it's a fun game and time waster.

I've been trying to work my way through my collection of switch indie games, but I find myself playing Borderlands 2 on PC and 88 heroes on switch when I'm not working my way through a game.
