  • New titles and First Person perspective

It seems to me that I am seeing more and more First Person Views only lately, obviously not just in the shooter genre. These FPV's can be very hit or miss for me as I do sometimes suffer from the dreaded motion sickness.I am lucky as it usually doesn't affect me too badly, my wife an avid gamer in her own right is not to lucky. She simply cannot play any FPV games, regardless of FOV sliders etc.

Now it may just be me and if it is, I apologize for pontificating, however as I get older such diatribes are becoming more difficult to avoid. There's so many games that look amazing to me only to find that it's restricted to FPV only. Games such as "The Outer Worlds" which promises to be a must have title make the prospect of only playing in short intervals in an attempt to avoid getting sea sick. Thankfully to my knowledge Obsidian has not come out and said that they weren't going to include a third person view, so I'm choosing to hope for the best.

Is there some reason for the seeming swell of FPV games other than just going with the trends? I'd love to hear the forum's take on FPV only games and if this is affecting anyone else. Thanks for listening.

Hi! In my opinion the new games that are in first person and aren't shooters, are RPGs with emphasis on character creation and player agency. They adopt the first person perspective because you are supposed to be the character you're playing and it helps with immersion.

Take for example The Witcher and Cyberpunk, both are from the same company and they're the same genre. The difference is that Geralt is an established character whlie V is not.

I don't see how especially in a RPG staring at my carefully crafted player's hands while bobbing up and down is at all immersive. How does a first person view benefit character creation? You never see anything but your hands and weapons....it's just silly.Cyberpunk being fully FPV really hurts. I know that I'll only be able to play in small bursts to prevent motion sickness and it's a game I've been looking forward to for a long time.

As I said above, for shooters I can certainly understand and even expect the first person view....but for RPGs especially single player in my mind there's absolutely no excuse for not providing an alternate third person view for those who prefer it due to aesthetic reasons and as stated above to prevent motion sickness.
