  • Daily Poll Eighty-Nine: Do you buy any AAA yearly franchises?

Last Daily Poll was on Ports. Check it out here: https://www.exclusivelygames.com/for...-you-buy-ports

The AAA industry is pretty notorious for churning out consistent low effort software casinos on a yearly basis. Games like Madden, FIFA, Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed for a while are a few that come to my mind. When I was younger I was deluded into thinking that I needed to get the newest COD every year or else I wasn't a real gamer. Ghosts got me out of that mindset thankfully and since then I got Black Ops 3 and 4 and MW2 on PC. No plans to buy a COD game again until Activision stops treating their IPs like mobile games. That's me what about you guys?

No, I never have. I'm not that interested in sport games or war games (or Just Dance, because I guess that is yearly too). If Konami kept bringing their Powerful Pro baseball series out over here, I'd definitely be getting those yearly.

I'm going to put the idea out that Civilisation is AAA and although it isn't "yearly" me having bought every one of them counts as I buy one AAA franchise yearly.

I would say that does not count as the poll is about game series saturation due to new games every year and not games that release one or two each generation

Nah, I'm not a sucker....although, the Pawafuru series is at least appealing, but too bad that I don't own any modern consoles.

        Not really

The few series or franchises that I consistently buy don't pump out games on a yearly basis

If you count all the DLCs you might say I've purchased Mass Effect yearly between 2008 and 2013. But it was worth it.

2008 Mass Effect / Bring Down the Sky
            2009 Pinnacle Station
2010 Mass Effect 2 Kasumi Stolen Memory / Overlord / Lair of the Shadowbroker
            2011 Arrival
            2012 Mass Effect 3 / Leviathan / Omega
            2013 The Citadel

Pokemon kind of counts, but it's so on and off when it's yearly or not, but also, because those games are so simple, I don't really count it.

No I don't. I do still play AAA titles, but usually only 1 title in 3 to 5 years is good. I don't blindly spend my money yearly on CoD or FIFA or the like.

No. I don’t know if any yearly franchises that are good enough to justify having a new title every year. I’ll play an Assassin’s Creed game now and then, but that’s usually waaaay after release.

I used to buy yearly franchises like Madden, NBA live back in the early 00s. I then started skipping every year and buying them every other year. Now, I no longer play Madden, I am still waiting for a good MLB baseball game on PC. Non-sports
yearly franchises like Call of duty or AC purchases were based on reviews and never at full price.

Pokemon is Nintendo's Call of Duty.

As mostly a Nintendo guy, it's pretty rare to have a "yearly franchise" to jump aboard. Even the Big N franchises that have frequent releases like Pokemon still have usually at least a year between them (Only one year between SM/USUM IIRC, but two years between USUM/SS). I don't really like sports games, CoD, or AC, so those are out as well. So, I guess not.
