  • Daily Poll 156: Do you care about speedrunning?

Last Daily Poll was one games being art. Check it out here: https://www.exclusivelygames.com/for...-are-games-art

Speedrunning is a really hardcore niche in the gaming community. Games Dones Quick has a passionate fanbase. I don't reallty watch speedruns but if you do what are your thoughts on them?

No, I don't care about glitching trough a game unintentionally quickly.

I don't care about it. When it comes to me performing a speedrun, I only care if there is a reward in it (like in Metroid). Outside of that, I remember watching an old speedrun of Mario 3... That's the only one I've bothered to watch though.

I like to watch occasionally to see players mastering the game but I care only about glitchless runs (things like beating OoT in 17min because you can go from the first boss to last is just not interesting to me

I've watched them and I would watch them again. I like seeing the bizarre and glitchy ways speedrunners traverse the levels. Also I appreciate just how long and how much practice it takes for them to get that perfect run. I wouldn't bother trying it myself though. I don't have the patience or skills.

I greatly dislike speedruns that rely on glitches, which are almost all of them. Seeing someone beat a game quickly just with sheer skill is pretty impressive, though.

I understand to a point, but sometimes the glitches people pull off in the proper order, requires more skill than actually playing the game.

I think it's funny how speed runners abuse glitches, exploits, level skips, etc. yet view the rest of us as "casuals" who don't know how to really play the game

I don't do speedruns, but I do occasionally watch speedruns of Sekiro or Dark Souls 3 on Twitch. But I'm more there for the chill atmosphere and the runner rather than the content.

I like more glitchless runs too, but the history of how these glitches are discovered and refined + how the world record changes over time are always really interesting to me.

This Summoning Salt Channel details a lot of them: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtU...t0daVIOGML3c8w

No. I would not enjoy games if I played them like this, and I don't watch other people playing games at all either.

I have no interest in speedruns. I remember years ago, I was on another forum and someone made a post bragging about their speedrun of Fallout: New Vegas. I thought to myself, "Congrats, you missed the entire point of the game."
There's no way to delete my account, so I'll just put this here:

I think speed runners miss the point of literally every game they play. I've seen some of them actually talk about a game like it's a bad game just because it isn't speed runner friendly. These people are weird, I don't even view them as real gamers

While I was a mod on Andy Warski's now deleted twitch stream where he attempted to speedrun Mario World, I generally don't care about speedruns.

I'm not interested in speed runs but I like to see the glitches that people do as it often gives insights into how the game was written\tested etc and I'm quite interested in that kind of stuff.

Only reason I have ever liked watching speed runs. Also sometimes they can give helpful exploits if you don't care about playing the game fair.
