  • Daily Poll 283: Do you follow game sales?

    Last Daily Poll was Smash being a fighting game. Check it out here: https://www.exclusivelygames.com/for...-fighting-game

    Analytics is part of any industry and gaming is no different. A lot of the numbers are behind paywalls that only investors, analysts and suits of the game companies can pass. The NPDs do list the 10 best selling games every month in the States just doesn't give exact numbers. The UK does the same thing but weekly and Famitsu released weekly number for game and console sales in Japan. Publicly traded companies also release information every quarter so we get solid numbers from Sony and Nintendo while Microsoft is very vague. Follow any of these or ones I don't know about?

    It depends. I follow them when I wonder if a game's company will live or die by that game, or when good sales fly in the face of a controversy caused by entitlement, but otherwise, not really.

      Yep. I don't buy digital games unless they are heavily discounted, and I follow a few gaming sale Twatter accounts too (such as Cheap Ass Gamer).

        Star Magician I too understood the title question like this, but it's actually about how a game sells, not about how you follow games on sale. Joker's text makes it clear.

        Linkblade I read that text like an NES instruction manual lol

      No I don't. I have looked at some sales numbers in the past, but they were cited as sources for upholding arguments why X is better than Y or doing worse than Z.

        The only sales I follow are Steam Sales.

          I was talking more about the discounts, but I do listen to some rumors of how many games where sold on Steam (not always tough).

        I listen to the Top Down Perspective podcast, and they sometimes cover sales on there. That’s the extent I follow it to.

            @Linkblade

            I thought they mean sales, like the winter sales. No I don't give damn about how much a game sells. lol

          So I guess I misunderstood the question, so here's my actual answer.

          Sales numbers are irrelevant to me. The only people I ever see talking about them are console peasants.

            I don't follow them per se but my daily news sources talk about them when relevant so I am exposed to it anyways
