    Most unexpected story twists

    Possible spoilers obviously.

So what storyline twist surprised you the most in any game you played? Why? I understand that most of the games have pretty straightforward storylines which you can guess half way through but sometimes one or two events may slip past you. Here's 2 of my favourites.
    • Bioshock - "Would you kindly?"
I just didn't expect it. I thought the tattoos on the main characters wrists were suspicious but this caught me by surprise the first time I played the game. Atlas was fishy but I have to admit I trusted him all the way through. "A man chooses, a slave obeys." and then that golf club moment.
    • Spec Ops: The Line
Halfway through the game you start getting hints that whatever is happening the ruins of the city is happening in the main characters head as well. It was a bittersweet ending for me.

I can't express how hilarious I find this post given one of the examples I used in a 'most emotionally invested in a character' was Prototype. Especially for how it plays on this post's expectation.

MGS V when you are forced to kill your own men. I knew there was contamination there but I never expected to have to kill these guys until I was facing the cold hard truth.

While not exactly a "plot twist" in the proper term, I never expected to have to go that far.

It's not exactly a twist, because they keep twisting it and untwisting it, but I thought the whole thing of "Did Ashley kill his family or did bandits?" in Vagrant Story was pretty compelling.

Maybe they should make a game where you have amnesia and play as an evil person and then find out at the end that you were actually a good guy, and you just destroyed everything you were trying to protect.

Haha. Same thing happened in my case. She didn't even look back, but later said that she thought I was right behind her.

Indeed. The developers and writers had a good with the whole Bioshock franchise. Unfortunate that the franchise had to die.

The biggest twist I've ever encountered was playing We Were Here with a friend.

We made it through all of the puzzles and arrived at the exit. Being the good friend I am, I hopped on the pressure plate to lift up the gate, and then that bastard ran off without me, leaving me to die. I was shocked, but it was also hilarious.

I loved the twists in Bioshock Infinite. All the way through the game I was wondering what difference my choices would make, like the cage or the bird, draw your gun at the station or demand the tickets...so many choices and when I found out the effect they had on the game my mind was blown!

Agree with Jade Empire. Which reminds me I should replay it. Played it only once but I remember the experience was great, the storyline mostly.

    SPOILERS FOLLOW.

Colony Wars: Vengeance. "Everything I believed in has been proven a lie." Holy feth. The player character for this game narrates it and he's not kidding. I'd played Colony Wars and gotten the Cannon ending, which leads into Vengeance. (See here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG1k...youtu.be&t=245 ) That's right. I was Khron. Fething blew me away and to this day I can't hear that classical piece (Dvorak #9) without hearing his final triumphant narration over it. Because the twist meant defeating him was that cathartic.

I've had good twists in other games, Bioshock deserves it's mention. KOTOR 1 is a grand piece. "Yo buddy, still alive?" gets at me. But THIS is the one that I can't forget until the day I die.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow before the devs just told everyone you played as Dracula in the sequel. A very heartbreaking origins story.

Oh yeah, KOTOR one is incredible.

Also Borderlands 2. And although it really doesn't count as a proper "plot twist", but I really enjoyed the twists and turns the story took in the recent Prey game.
