I prefer the turn based style, but I don't think FF XV would work with turn based. I loved how it was just a couple of bros on a road trip, but getting pulled into battles randomly would have broken the mood to me. Didn't play 12 much got about half way through and the battles got annoying.
Played 11 back when it first came out and enjoyed it but never got too far. I tried to keep most of the classes around the same level. Hated the dunes... FF XIV i have a SMN that I used to play, looking to go back soon.
I think FFVI had the best story maybe. FFIX is probably one of my favorites. Didn't like X or X-2. the XIII ones were just ok.

The minigames they randomly threw at you near the end of World of Final Fantasy (considering I don't recall the game having any minigames in it until that point, then they throw several different ones at you) had me seeing red. They were all skippable, but if you're going for completion, you need the reward from meeting certain requirements in all the minigames.Originally posted by Astraea View PostI think it's a shame they moved away from being turnbased, but on the other hand I moved away from JRPG's too, so we will never know if I would have liked an alternate path in history for the franchise, maybe. Yes i've played FF XIV, it was really fun during beta and a few weeks after release but then I stopped because there was no fun endgame content to busy myself with, did a bit of PvP arena instead and then stopped and never looked back because of alternatives on the market. I played Black Mage.
My favourite FF storyline was that of VIII, it was a little bit more real world drama (enlisting for the military, childhood friends going completely different ways, graphics overall felt a bit more dark as well) and the plot twists got very creative and dramatic and even a bit dark for FF standards.
In terms of combat I think FFX had the best system.
Edit: BTW how did you guys feel about all the mini games? Which one was the most enjoyable? I really liked Blitzball, I must have played it almost as much as FFX itself, which is a lot.

I stopped at 9... that's... that's it. It just started feeling so... generic, impersonal and overly convoluted. I mean boring is one thing, but complicated boring is where I gotta draw the line. Final Fantasy has become like the stereo instructions of gaming.
I did really enjoy the 3D remake of 2... and the sequel to 2... wish they would do that with the 3rd one.
Er... US 2 and 3 I mean... I forget the original Japanese numbers for them.

I've enjoyed every Final Fantasy game I've played to date (1-15, including the online ones, and several spinoffs). When I judge whether or not I like a particular game, I consider whether that one particular game is fun to me. I try to avoid judging it based on other games in the same series. On that note, I am a big fan of both the traditional turn-based combat of previous titles, and the more action-oriented combat found in XII and XV. I also like that XV was open-world. I love having a lot to do in my RPGs.
