Can I Justify Buying An Xbox When I Already Have a Top Range Gaming PC?

First things first, do you have the money to spare? If the $200 is tight and gong to affect your daily life I would say no don't buy it as you can play games on your pc. Only reason I start off with that is I have known many people buying things they don't really need and have something that already fills that role when expenses are tight and ends up just causing many problems and headaches. I never want to steer someone in that direction.

If $200 is good and not gonna negatively impact you then lets talk about justifying it. I understand where you are coming from with this, I own a PS4 Pro, One X, and high end PC so justifying my purchases was something I had to do a lot. For me it came down to what role the purchase was for and is it filling that role to a state I deem acceptable. Me as an example, my pc is my primary platform, some friends play on it, I buy all my multiple plats for the most part on it and its my main focus. PS4 Pro I bought for playing the sony exclusives and playing CoD with friends form college that only had a PS4. One x I just got recently as I couldn't justify having one up until recently even though I wanted one. I have the One X solely to play Halo and RDR2 on my 4k TV. Total chill platform I play when I don't want to be competitive or sit at my desk. Before RDR2 I couldn't really justify the One X just for Halo so I waited until now. So that's my experience and all my purchases are fulfilling their roles and I am rather satisfied.

Now on to you. You want an xbox to play destiny with your friends. Few things to consider. What is a acceptable amount of playtime for you? Every day, once a week, once a month? Obviously having to platforms means you can only play one at a time and that time is limited. If you want to play every day or frequently but know you ultimately won't then it may not be a good purchase and etc. Another thing is friends are playing Destiny now but will they move to another game in the future that you can't play with them while on pc? Obviously its hard to determine that now but you know your friends and what their game choices are like. And a good last question would be will you use it for other than its main goal. Like will you play MCC or another MS exclusive you can't play on PC? I for one use the 4k Blu Ray player on mine often enough. I feel if you can answer these questions and get a good idea of what you want out of it you can determine if its justifiable.

    Hope it helps!

The Xbox One X is a phenomenal piece of hardware, and can compete in the 4k realms against top tier PC's.

I got one to play Wildlands with my friends who don't own PC's.

That isn't exactly true, the X can compete on SOME games, but only a tiny few and they're all locked to either 30fps or low settings.

I'd say convince you friends to play on PC instead, because paying for online sucks (I have a PS4 and a PC, I can't play shit on my PS4 because I keep having to pay for online, so I just go back to my PC, I probably won't buy a console next generation).

Do it, especially at its current price point. I got one recently at target for 150 bucks. I have every console and pretty good pc and I still find myself playing Xbox a lot. Especially since they are releasing mmos I enjoy on console.

4k @ 60hz is still a pipe dream for most. The vast majority of 4k users (myself included) have been playing below the 60hz ceiling. My Xbox One X can run Forza 4 at the same settings as my GTX 2080 TI rig, with just a slightly lower framerate. The visual fidelity is nearly identical though.

For a console that costs sub $500? That's incredible. My GPU alone was almost 2k after tax.

I’m not sure I’d spend the money on one if all you are planning to play is Destiny (I’m assuming Destiny 2?). I had Destiny 2 on PS4 and it lasted me for about a month then I was done.

Yeah that's true, but you can't forget all the bottlenecks that come with that $500 price tag. Locked FPS, locked settings and the filter system for games is a killer.

I'm a PC gamer mainly. I got an Xbox One S after my Xbox 360 broke. I planned to use it mostly as a fancier X360, but I've played more the MCC, Spyro and Soulcalibur 6 than any X360 game! I'd say it's worth it.

My only complaint is the UI/UX, I just don't like how clunky it is to navigate. Booting time and loading times in general are another weak point.

I already played Gears 4 on PC. You can play Halo Wars 1 and 2 on PC, and you'll be able to play Halo 6 on PC. You could play Gears 5, but I don't know why anyone would want to play that on any platform.

As a xbox fan boy I would say get one. but right now xbox and consoles in general are in kind of a draught for good games except Sony with its exclusives. The only game right now that i can justifies you getting a xbox for is red dead but you got that for the station. I would recommend waiting till a new content drop for the one like if a new halo or gears comes out because those are the xbox flag ships, or just waiting the the new xbox because Microsoft is most likely wait for that to come out before using all those studios they bought to make games.

I'm a big Xbox fan. But I would say "no," not at this point. Microsoft is rolling out Game Pass on PC. Very soon, they will be rolling out Xbox Live as a more integral part of PC gaming. Meaning, in the future, if you get something like Destiny on Xbox Live, it won't matter much what plastic box you are playing Xbox on. Soon, you will have most the benefits of a Xbox console player. It's not quite there yet. But be patient.

Xbox as a service is what you're getting at? That's a really interesting thought and fits in with Microsoft's everything as a service model.

Yeah, its happening. I dont know if you meant it that way, but it really isnt a question. Xbox Live is coming to Android, iOS and the Nintendo Switch. Someone can still buy a Xbox console, but you no longer need one in order to play Xbox games over Xbox Live. If someone wanted to just skip the box and just double down on a gaming PC, that is a very viable option.
