Can I Justify Buying An Xbox When I Already Have a Top Range Gaming PC?

I'd say convince you friends to play on PC instead, because paying for online sucks (I have a PS4 and a PC, I can't play shit on my PS4 because I keep having to pay for online, so I just go back to my PC, I probably won't buy a console next generation).

That isn't exactly true, the X can compete on SOME games, but only a tiny few and they're all locked to either 30fps or low settings.Originally posted by Proxima View PostThe Xbox One X is a phenomenal piece of hardware, and can compete in the 4k realms against top tier PC's.
I got one to play Wildlands with my friends who don't own PC's.

First things first, do you have the money to spare? If the $200 is tight and gong to affect your daily life I would say no don't buy it as you can play games on your pc. Only reason I start off with that is I have known many people buying things they don't really need and have something that already fills that role when expenses are tight and ends up just causing many problems and headaches. I never want to steer someone in that direction.
If $200 is good and not gonna negatively impact you then lets talk about justifying it. I understand where you are coming from with this, I own a PS4 Pro, One X, and high end PC so justifying my purchases was something I had to do a lot. For me it came down to what role the purchase was for and is it filling that role to a state I deem acceptable. Me as an example, my pc is my primary platform, some friends play on it, I buy all my multiple plats for the most part on it and its my main focus. PS4 Pro I bought for playing the sony exclusives and playing CoD with friends form college that only had a PS4. One x I just got recently as I couldn't justify having one up until recently even though I wanted one. I have the One X solely to play Halo and RDR2 on my 4k TV. Total chill platform I play when I don't want to be competitive or sit at my desk. Before RDR2 I couldn't really justify the One X just for Halo so I waited until now. So that's my experience and all my purchases are fulfilling their roles and I am rather satisfied.
Now on to you. You want an xbox to play destiny with your friends. Few things to consider. What is a acceptable amount of playtime for you? Every day, once a week, once a month? Obviously having to platforms means you can only play one at a time and that time is limited. If you want to play every day or frequently but know you ultimately won't then it may not be a good purchase and etc. Another thing is friends are playing Destiny now but will they move to another game in the future that you can't play with them while on pc? Obviously its hard to determine that now but you know your friends and what their game choices are like. And a good last question would be will you use it for other than its main goal. Like will you play MCC or another MS exclusive you can't play on PC? I for one use the 4k Blu Ray player on mine often enough. I feel if you can answer these questions and get a good idea of what you want out of it you can determine if its justifiable.
Hope it helps!

I think you'll get the system, play the game for a couple weeks with your pals, and then move back to the PC. Exert your self-control; don't get the xbox.

If you get enjoyment playing online with friends via XBL, yeah go for it. I would probably look into what games support windows/xbox cross play before laying out cash though.

I say go for it. Then again, I don't always make sound gaming decisions. I just purchased a WiiU so I can play Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Fatal Frame V. If you are going to get 100's of hours out of Destiny, then it may be worth it. I will admit, I own every gaming console except the Xbox One, but this is because all my friends play on PS4. This doesn't mean I won't eventually pick up an Xbox so I can play the few exclusives I'm interested in though.

To me, the only valid reasons to own an Xbox One would be as a 4K Blu-Ray player and/or for backward compatibility. Panzer Dragoon Orta is not on PC YET. Otherwise, It’s down to an embarrassingly small number of exclusives, none of which are must plays for me.

It depends what you like. I honestly hate using controllers and don't like siting on a couch to play video games. If you like that, why not?

Personally I bought xbox one for the halo games primarily. But i also think you should look at what else your going to use it for. For me its used as blue ray player, netflix, now tv, amazon prime and crunchyroll. If you are only getting it for one game that you will be bored with in a few months then don't bother.
Dont forget we are due the next gen of consoles from sony and microsoft in next couple of years might be better saving money for them.
