I deliberately DON'T play scary games. Horror games that are advertised as such? Nope! I made some mistakes over the years, though with games that I thought I could handle but they got me good. Like first two Dead Space games. The hospital level in Bioshock Infinite (with those guys with megaphones for their ears), The orphanage level in Thief: Deadly Shadows,... There were moments when I simply had to get up from my PC, body covered in cold sweat and I had to walk it off.
It's not jump scares that's bad for me. I played RE6 and it was fine (no other Residents, though), it's the games that create the sneaky feeling of dread and terror that I just can't stand.

edit: Also yeah, this thread is in a wrong spot. I think you could try flagging your own OP and asking a mod to move it for you.

re4 with the chainsaw enemy(dr. salvidor I think he was called), granted it was more panic than terror but still that was the thing that got me started on the path of survival horror

Yes I agree, that intro was plenty creepy.

I think you posted this in the wrong section. But anyways, I felt panic induced terror as sonic drowned in the first game, and there were parts of ffvii that were quite terrifying.

That's cool. All the -4 levels have some great creepy music.

Resident Evil 1 was the game that really scared me. The first zombie cutscene still gives me chills.

Believe it or not, I actually got scared of the castle levels in Super Mario Bros. As in, 1-4, 2-4, 3-4, etc. because the music was eerie and made me feel uneasy. I didn't even remember this until my parents told me about it.

For me it was back in 1994, my dad took me to the mall to pick out a game for our new family computer we just got, "Wow I miss those days looking around in a computer store" anyway, Alone in the dark 2 stood out to me and looked like a good adventure game, of course I got it, got home and started it up and my mind was blown! This game was very scary and creepy for its time. I will never get that creepy clown puppet out of my head the sounds those creepy zombie dudes made and the feeling I had when I was running away from them. I was legitimately scared playing this game but boy did I love it. This is the game that got me into the horror game genre. I would love to hear some of your stories on this topic. Peace.
