Must have been Wolfenstein 3D, when an enemy just popped up from nowhere, then in Doom of course. Resident Evil and the dogs through the window is also a note worthy moment.

The flying skulls in Doom. You'd expect it to be chainsawing people up, but not for this little guy.

I think one of the first times I was scared when I was playing a video game was when I was playing the level Low Life in Half Life 2: Episode 1 just because it's use of darkness.

Prince of Persia really freaked me out as a kid especially going through those blades and getting sliced in half. I was so scared of the horror scenes in Phantasmagoria that I played the game in its safe mode so the gore was blurred out. Silent Hill 1 and 2 were pretty scary. Hands down scariest game I've played is Amnesia: The Dark Descent and I didn't get complete my first play-through because it freaked me out so much but after several months I came back and got through it. I don't what happened with Amnesia 2 that game sucked.

The Doom PS1 versions and the original Silent Hill. I hadn't played Doom on PC before, so the new ambient horror soundtrack and monster sounds were my first introduction to the game. They were unsettling and levels got really tense, so it started having that Dark Souls-style fear of death thing going on.

Silent Hill just freaked me out the whole way. My younger cousin actually bought it and was too scared to play it, so he just watched me play it. Good times.

Hmmm makes me think.. Not sure if it was the first but the first thing that comes to mind is when the first F.E.A.R came out.

There don't appear to be any for some reason.

I still remember this - it was an early wolfenstien game, the first time you made it past the soldiers and had to fight monsters. it was hella late and dark and I really didn't know the game was going to take a turn like that.

I'm sure there was something before this but Alone In The Dark really sticks out for me.

I think it was an online game that my dad had on the computer.
Could have been Urban Terror or something but i never figured out how to get it to work properly cause i was like 6 or 7.
I remember booting to a map that was really dark, think i was facing bots or something.
To little me it was quite scary to walk around in a dark empty map and have my ears blasted by the extremely high audio when i got shot for the first time.

Nightmare Creatures 2 on Playstation. The first part with the main character -- and pretty much everyone else -- screaming and agony scared the hell out of me. I was so scared of it that I would throw a fit if I see my brother just think about picking up the CD case. I would love to see it remastered.

I think the first game that truly scared me was Quake 4. The sudden spawns of enemies managed to be scary without being annoying. Plus, the stroggification scene... *shudders*

I really should finish it one day, I never got to finish it when I was younger. Totally not because I was that scared of it or anything, hahahaha... oh.

I think the first game that actually scared me was GTA Vice City, which sounds strange i know. I was only 11 at the time it came out. But the brutality of people being killed by a chain saw and run over was too real for some reason. And i felt like there were actually people who would do such a thing in real life. Having grown up i loved the games later on but when i was a kid it scared me becuse i felt like it was believable in terms of the acts depicted.
Working...
