Pacific Theater World War 2 Game?
I know the World War 2 game market has been saturated over the years, but one theater I have seen barely any of is the pacific theater. I would love to fight as the Japanese or the Americans dueling it out in gorilla island warfare, it would be like storming the beaches of Normandy over and over again and who doesn't think that sounds fun!? I have also always been a sucker for naval game-play. I just think it's a shame we don't have many games about this topic. Am I the only one?Tags: None

looking at this more in depth I absolutely agree! It's not that the genre that is over-saturated just a few topics are over-used.

The amazing thing is that even though you listed many great settings for a new WW2 shooter, there are many more. With so many overlooked and seemingly forgotten battles and campaigns in WW2, I'd argue that the concept of a WW2 game is not as saturated as it seems.

I agree, you could make a whole game about The Pacific and Southeast Asia. Heck you could even start way before the beginning of World War Two with the invasion of Korea by Japan. You could switch between the many view points of the countries in the Sinno-Japanese war, countries like Mongolia, Korea, The Philippines, and China (Which would actually be interesting because the Communist Rebels and the Chinese Government actually called a truce and fought together against the Japanese, that would be wicked to see a story based around that). In Eastern Europe Kursk comes to mind, Stalingrad has already been done to death. The Nordic Countries and the Winter War is something I would like to see as well. for Western Europe I'd like to see the Spanish Civil War, or something having to do with that. Africa/Italy I would love to see the Greek campaign, the Ethiopian campaign, and the Sicily invasion.

I love the idea. I always enjoyed playing an old WW2 shooter that was set in the Pacific theater when I was much younger. Dang, I can't remember the name of it.
Anyway, I also like the idea of further expanding the environments that WW2 games use. A cool line-up of campaigns a game could have would be:
-North Africa/Italy
-Western Europe
-Eastern Europe
-Pacific
-Southeast Asia?
What do you guys think?

There is a couple I can recommend, if you have a working PS2, PTO IV is a damn final game for its time. For the Xbox 360 there was Battlestations Pacific and Midway. My father, long since retired and disabled, has always been a WWII historian and Navy man himself and enjoyed those games a lot when I gifted them to them. Because some of that rubbed off on me, I enjoy World of Warships, but it doesn't simulate naval battles, just the ships.

You're right, only games I remember playing a pacific front in was Rising Storm, BF 1942 and 1943. A lot of the games that have released recently or have been announced are stuck in the European front with a splash of Northern Africa.
I'm not sure why the Pacific front has seen less attention but I'm game for expanding the horizons.
