When it becomes mobile, not tethered to a PC I think it will be better. The bulk/weight is a factor that can be overcome in time.

To be honest though I think it will always be a niche market.

I think there is a place. But they NEED to solve the motion sickness. As that is stifling creativity in a big way.

VR is still in that startup circle of "No one makes games because no one has a VR headset, and no one buys VR headsets because there are no games."

I think that few things have done VR as much good as Beat Saber. Other than VR porn that is the one thing I've seen actually make people wish they had a VR headset.

The price and need for space and a solid rig are not helping things either.

I've tried a couple of VR devices at conventions, and it looks like it has a lot of potential. However, I'm not going to buy any VR headsets or games until I see it reach that potential. Hopefully, VR will find its way there eventually.

I think it does have a future, I'm a VR fan too.
The 4th Issue is the missing controller standard, there are so many VR (Rollercoasters, The Conjuring Experience, etcs) that uses a single button that could be activate by keyboard, mouse click, gamepad button, but each platform have it's own controller config so devs need to custom build each input for every platform.
The 5th Issue is software price, most VR games aren't worth $5 and ask for $20 or more at launch. If Rush of Blood and Robo Recall sells for $20 I don't know how any other indie gallery shooter try to ask the same price.
But overall it's more about the huge hype the industry tried to push and didn't meet their overestimated expectations.
The VR Market have how many units in total, 6 millions? All starving for new content and games, there is enough market to be successful but if we compare to consoles it's indeed a small niche market.
I would love to see the devs forget about roomscale, forget about 3DOF/6DOF, just map the VR to the Camera/Viewport and let anygame be played using the HMD.
